Gary Matczak
Who came out with the winter concerts first featuring a trap set and bass guitar ala the Crusaders did with Corky's ( and probably others) Arrangement of "Up,Up and away" swing style??? Would love seeing that and adding keyboards ( yes, electronic) for a true big jazz band sound once again! Even have the keys for it!! any takers!? I think I have a photo of the Fabulous Crusaders at that winter show with with a bass and drum set..........for some reason that rings a bell,............ Dude, any chance of copying that for me?? That was a wild brass line and concept that really worked for 1969-70!
TomPeashey
Gary, Jack Bullock had the Appleknockers swinging on stage with a trap set and bass fiddle more than 10 years before Cru copied the idea... Vince knew how to recognize a good thing and turn it to his advantage... He often talked about the creativeness of Geneva... Some one from the Geneva camp will have to give me a beginning year - I'd guess 1957... BUT I definitely attended Appleknocker Winter Concerts in the late 50's... Cru2u
Tom, I was aware of the Appleknockers doing the concept but if it was 1959 I was 4 years old and still a noobie to drum corps! LOL! I believe the Crusaders used a bass guitar but i could be wrong......still impressed the heck out of me with that Horn line and who was it that played the trap??
