Crossmen Percussion Staff Announced

Crossmen Percussion Caption Head, Rudy Gowern, Battery Coordinator, Paul Loos, and Front Ensemble Coordinator , Nathan Ratliff are pleased to announce the new Crossmen Percussion instructional team. Powered by arrangements from Lee Beddis and Andrew Markworth the percussion team is ready to get started on the 2011 season.

Bios:

Jules Scogna

Jules began his drum corps career in 2006 as a member of Seattle Cascades. In 2008 he went to The Cadets to play marimba under Neil Larrivee and Iain Moyer. He aged out of DCI in 2009 with The Holy Name Cadets placing 3rd.

In 2007 Jules joined United Percussion, winning Independent Open at WGI finals. Continuing in 2008 United entered Independent World. In 2009 he became a member of the PIW champions Rhythm X, receiving the highest score in PIW history. Jules aged out as section leader of Rhythm X in 2010.

Jules is an active teacher and arranger in the Philadelphia area. He has arranged and instructed for numerous groups in PA, NJ, NC and TX. He currently teaches Upper Darby HS.

Jules attends Drexel University in Philadelphia, finishing his degree in mechanical engineering. At Drexel he has been a featured percussionist in numerous percussion ensembles, wind ensembles and orchestras. He has been a timpanist and percussionist for the Lansdowne Symphony Orchestra and Philadelphia Boy’s Choir. From 2005 to 2008 he won 4 consecutive MAPS Solo Keyboard competitions, and placed 4th in 2007 at the PASIC College Keyboard competition. Following Drexel he plans to attend medical school.

Sarah Fabian

Sarah was a five-year marching member of the DCI world, aging-out with the 2009 silver-medalist, Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps. Before Carolina Crown, Sarah marched with the Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps (‘05-‘08). She was also a four-year member of the world-class indoor drumline, United Percussion, earning a gold medal at the 2007 WGI Independent Open Championships.

In 2010, Sarah joined the percussion staff as the bass tech for the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps. She is currently the bass tech for United Percussion and directs and arranges for the drumline at Calvert Hall College High School in Towson, Maryland. Sarah also works with several other Maryland area schools. She has also served as the caption head for Perry Hall High School’s marching band in Baltimore, Maryland. While there, she was the founder and director of the school’s indoor drumline program in 2007.

Sarah is a student at Towson University, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education in Percussion. She currently performs with many prestigious groups in the area such as the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Memorial Players Association and is a member of the Towson University Marching Band.

Sarah is excited to be working with the Crossmen bass line this year. She looks forward to an outstanding 2011 season.

Paul Loos

Paul Loos is a full time percussion educator, clinician, arranger and designer. Paul has been involved with many different high schools, drum corps and independent ensembles since 2001. His marching experience includes the Glassmen Drum and bugles corps, NorthCoast Academy, and the Michigan State Marching Band.

Paul started at Walled Lake Central and Walled Lake Percussion in 2005 and is currently the battery caption head, battery arranger and Co-Designer. Paul has helped WLP receive a medal every year in the MCGC circuit and 2 medals in the WGI circuit (Gold in PIA in 2006, Bronze in PIO in 2007). WLP has also been a PSW finalist since 2009. Due to the growth of WLP they were able to divide into both a PSA and a PSW ensemble. Paul is also the percussion director at Lake Orion high school. In just his first year at Lake Orion, Paul helped the organization win its first State Championship in 2010. During that season Paul worked as Program Coordinator, designer, battery arranger and drill writer.

Paul’s PIW teaching career began with Eastside Fury in 2007 and 2008. In 2009 Paul joined the NCA staff and was also a guest judge for the Indoor European Championships. In 2010, Paul joined the staff of Redline and helped them to their highest score in the history of the organization in the WGI circuit and their first MCGC state Championship. Paul is currently the Battery caption head and arranger for NorthCoast Academy.

Paul started his DCI teaching career with Crossmen Drum Corps in 2006. He then joined the Carolina Crown percussion staff in 2009 and 2010. Paul is excited to back with the Crossmen Drum Corps for the 2011 season.

Rudy Gowern

Rudy Gowern has been involved in the drum corps activity since 1977. As a performing member throughout 15 seasons he marched with the Heightsman from 1977-1983, the Citations 1986, St. Anthony's or Revere 1987, the Boston Crusaders from 1988-1992 and aged out of the 1993 Star of Indiana World Championship percussion section.

Mr. Gowern’s DCI teaching experience includes the Magic of Orlando, Phoenix, and the Boston Crusaders. Mr. Gowern served as the Percussion Caption Head for the Crusaders from 1999-2001.

Mr. Gowern most recently served as Director of Percussion Activities for the Mt Juliet High School Band of Gold and King Philip Regional High School. He has also served as an instructor and percussion arranger for the Boston College Screaming Eagles Marching Band and the Boston University WGI Indoor Percussion Ensemble.

Mr. Gowern is an active percussion adjudicator for the Indiana Percussion Association, the Southeastern Color Guard Circuit, the Louisiana Percussion Circuit and the Gulf-coast Percussion Circuit.

Mr. Gowern is earning his Music Education Degree at Jacksonville State University, Jacksonville, Al.and is also on the percussion staff for the JSU Marching Southerners. Besides being named Percussion Head for the Crossmen Drum Corps, Mr. Gowern is also the Assistant Director and Music Arranger for the newly formed WGI PIW group, Center Stage Percussion from Jacksonville, AL.

He lives just outside of Atlanta, GA with his wife Ondrea and their son Paul.
