MikeN
I'd look into the lower-cost options, then - Yamaha Power Lite or Pearl Competitor - http://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical-instruments/marching/snaredrums/ms-6213w/?mode=model http://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical-instruments/marching/multitoms/mq-6200_power-lite_series/?mode=model http://www.pearldrum.com/Products/Marching/Competitor-Series/CMSX-Snare.aspx http://www.pearldrum.com/Products/Marching/Competitor-Series/CMS-Snare.aspx http://www.pearldrum.com/Products/Marching/Competitor-Series/CMT-Tenor.aspx You don't need extreme high tension drums for kids that small - if anything, kevlar heads will *hurt* developing muscles as they don't have as much "give" as mylar. As for stands, if you're just needing them for indoor practice, then you have many more options. The Pearl S-1000 or S-2000 (http://www.pearldrum.com/Products/Hardware/Snare-Stands.aspx) ought to do you just fine at a reasonable price. For pricing, here's a link to Steve Weiss Music - they've got very competitive pricing on marching gear, and I've always had great luck with their customer service, too. http://www.steveweissmusic.com/category/marching Once / if you decide to take the kids "on the move" while playing, both Power-Lite and Competitor series have lightweight carriers available. This is obviously just my opinion, but I feel these drums are still around for a reason. There's no need to hit small kids with heavy-duty drums, and these do quite well at a lower price point. Hope this helps! Mike

CANDRUMMER
For bass drums use TRIXON Field Series II. They are very light and VERY affordable. They can be bought at JIM LAAB MUSIC in Wisc. They come 18'' and up.We have 2 in our Alumni Corps and they sound great!!! Price INCLUDES the carrier as well.
