Galen Posted January 16, 2012 Author Share Posted January 16, 2012 A few seasons ago we added the "Sweepstakes Award" as a way of recognizing corps for consistently finishing at the top of the standings over the course of the season. There's a list of shows designated as "sweepstakes events" that award points to the top-placing corps here: http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/index.php/topic/149017-dcpi-17-major-events-calendar/page__p__3091755__hl__major__fromsearch__1#entry3091755 At the end of the season, the corps receiving the most points is declared the "sweepstakes champion" for their respective division. There's alao an "overall" award that goes to the corps with the highest overall sweepstakes score, regardless of division. This is to help put some more focus on Open and Class A corps. Ironically, in the 3 seasons the award has been in place, no world class corps has won it, so the "more focus" goal has certainly been met so far.
