BigBadMadMan
When did this announcement change happen? Has it been prior to this year? I just wanna go on the record as saying I think it's stupid. Also, listening to Brent Crocker announce the Scouts Saturday, it sounded like he forgot and almost threw the "The" in there. I mean, why such a silly little change? Not really griping, just seems useless...kinda like one of those "just because" changes with no rhyme or reason.
Roark1
I think that happend with a few corps. I remember thinking to myself "where's the 'the' on Saturday.
hrnguy500
I noticed it too and it seemed weird to me as well. Perhaps an scholarly linguist would have some input on the issue.
Roark1
Maybe someone trademaked the word "the" and they don't want ton pay royalties for using it. Edited July 16, 2012 by Roark1
BigBadMadMan
Exactly (to your first comment, Roark). "Drum Corps International is proud to present, THE __________." It's grammatically correct as a proper title and just sounds better to my ears. Leaving the "THE" out just sounds clunky and serves no apparent purpose at all. Really scratching my head on this one... Edited July 16, 2012 by BigBadMadMan
Roark1
Is it possible that DCI couldn't get the sync-rights for "the".
flammaster
I thought that was just in Kalamazoo. "and now from Madison Wisconsin ___ Scouts!"
flammaster
Is it possible that DCI couldn't get the sync-rights for "the". Man Gail Zappa is suing everyone!
hrnguy500
Maybe announcers are paid "by the word" so they are being asked to cut out trivial words like "the".
Northern Thunder
Some of the corps still had the "the" listed in the printed program Saturday, as well as on the jumbo stadium screen introduction. Brandt Crocker did use "the" for a couple corps that did not have "the" in their official listing.
