perc2100
I don't post on here often, and typically avoid the BS that is so common. But here's a fun question I've been thinking about for a while. How often does a woodwind player (or any non-DCI instrument) march Drum Corps? What examples can you think of? Even more specifically: I recently read about some saxophone player becoming a bass Drum at Cadets a while back. How often does THIS happen, a non-drummer drumming for drum corps? Let's hear ALL the stories My wife was a flute major in college who played soprano in drum corps: she even had a featured duet her age-out year. When I marched our DM was a sax player who only learned to play baritone to march drum corps; he ended up aging-out as DM of a Top 3 corps. There are plenty of examples of ww players learning a new instrument in order to march drum corps; I look forward to reading some of the stories in this thread! JimF-LowBari
of course, i'm sure there are a number of baritones marching DCI that primarily play trombone, which is similar, but the valves are fairly different than the slide. raising hand on trombone player.... lowering hand on marching DCI :tongue:/> Yeah first two seasons I played off the fingerings written over the notes more than the notes themselves. Of course it was easier without that third valve... it was 0 - open, 1 - right thumb (valve), 2 - left thumb (rotor), and X for both....
