normy diploome
As we mark time in May, salivating for the first contest, and as fewer and fewer corps preview with a Memorial Day parade or such, here's a list of where to find your favorite corps. No corps is intentionally slighted. If they are not listed, it's because I couldn't find the info. Feel free to comment and correct. Enjoy! pokiy
Spirit will be at Riverside Military Academy in Gainsville, GA, then move up to TN for the remainder of spring training to prepare for the 1st show in KY. Spirit is also planning a Friends, Family and Alumni Picnic on Sunday May 26th at 5pm (Riverside Military Academy). I think there will be a nominal fee per car that will include a meal (from their new food truck!) and a preview concert of the show music. Ghost
Can one speculate that those who start earlier in May (not Memorial Day Weekend) have few HS members? Almost two extra weeks of full days does give any corps a nice jump.
normy diploome
Can one speculate that those who start earlier in May (not Memorial Day Weekend) have few HS members? Almost two extra weeks of full days does give any corps a nice jump. Let's take your insight further. Notice the geographical distinctions. High schools in the New England/Northeast, in the Northwest, and in California do not finish school until late June. Both facilities and students aren't available for everydays. Denver Blue Knights are not listed and note the coincidence of what is happening there. On May first, Colorado, Wyoming, and onto Minnesota are still struggling with serious snow storms. Note too, and without putdown or insinuation, the correlation between those with later move-in dates and the lower placements in World Class. While the age of membership may be one factor, shorter spring trainings are another.
CrownBaritone
Just so people know for Crown, the May 11th is for the battery/pit(?) early move-ins. Full corps move-ins aren't until May 18th, a Saturday.
Tuba1919
Maybe with earlier move-in dates we will get less shows that are incomplete. In the past, we have had corps at shows that standstill the last few minutes because their show is not finished. Just a thought?

The average age of a corps membership might be a better check of number of HS to college members.

Almost two extra weeks of full days does give any corps a nice jump. I suppose it might be a slight factor in the early couple of shows. But some Corps start a little earlier traveling and competing with shows, while others can still practice and start later shows. By August Championships it probably won't much matter. Some Corps also have staff in various levels of design completion at various points too, so this is probably a bigger factor than the actual May Camp dates, imo

The 2012 DCI Titlist Blue Devils had 35%-40% fewer shows last season ( 27 shows )than the 2nd place Crown ( 35 shows ) and 3rd place Phantom ( 34 shows ), 4th place Cadets ( 38 ). Was this a bigger factor than when their Camps all were ? Who knows ? But if we are looking at Camp Dates and final placements, we could look at the number of shows, and this as factor as well, I suppose. BD won DCI last season while competing in 35-40% less shows than their nearest competitors for the title. But it worked for them, right ? Or in other words, BD had more days (and nights) devoted solely to practice and refining the show than those other corps mentioned who devoted more time to travelling and prepping for individual contests in addition to the length of Spring Training as a variable.
