kevingamin
The ballad for the show is The Rose (as in Bette Midler). Very nice low brass sound to open with. Lush sounds coming from the baritones. Middle horns have to match that sound when they take over the melody. Something to work on since it's still early in the season. kevingamin
Corps stands still to restate the melody. Again, great sound from the low brass. Trumpet soloist takes over the melody as the is on the move again.
kevingamin
Color guard sits on the front side line at the end of The Rose and stays there as Appalachian Spring starts. I hope this doesn't mean their guard book isn't finished yet. Drum solo with brass interludes. Timing issues occurring between the basses and tubas on a very difficult section of music. Big finish by the full corps before the drums take center stage again to finish this movement.
kevingamin
Continuing with Appalachian Spring, now with the opening movement of the piece.
kevingamin
Trumpet and mello duet play the Simple Gifts melody. I'm guessing we're getting ready to finish. Low brass on the melody before the middle horns join in harmony.
kevingamin
VERY nice work by the tubas playing a trio on the Simple Gifts melody!
kevingamin
High step company front on the big statement of Simple Gifts before going into the big finish for the show. While this performance didn't excite the crowd as much as the previous two, there is a lot of good stuff happening in this show that is currently overshadowed by the parts that need work. This show may surprise us come Annapolis.

kevingamin
For this last year of the Statesmen, David Bruni is making sure to use every sequin available in Rochester for his coat. HUGE opening statement by the corps with New York State of Mind!
kevingamin
Horns marching in front of the pit at times, integrating the pit into the show much more than usual. Prologue from City of Angels, a shout out the the corps' last title in 2004. Jimmy Steele is one of the soloists in the pit. I didn't have to look, though, because that sound is unique from his horn.
