Because a tenor line would be playing the snare part except with arounds, crossovers and scrapes while thinking about playing zones clarity and rim. As to the bass/snare debate i'd say snare takes more chops. Are people saying that snare lines dont need to listen to each other? And there's not many bass lines who are playing snare part unisons.
