West Covina-Long Beach-Riverside

Recommended Posts

Since I’ve only seen Ryan H’s review of the Long Beach show, I thought I’d write up my thoughts about the recent Southern California week of drumcorps – West Covina, Long Beach & Riverside. So…

West Covina –

The 10 Freeway sucks. Su-ucks. It’s the Hoover vacuum of freeways. It’s a gigantic black hole of traffic suckosity, a place where traffic is absorbed, never to return.

Apparently, urinal technology is unknown in some parts of Canada.

The field at West Covina was actually functional, and had been mown sometime in the last year.

Did I mention the traffic was bad getting to the show?

Mystikal has the coolest logo of any new corps. They win. But, they can’t spell, so they lose.

Oregon Crusaders are going to win Div. III. By a lot.

I get the giant pencils in Impulse’s show, but I didn’t know cartoonists used lime green lead.

Pacific Crest avoided the problems with traffic by receiving an armed escort by Secret Service workers to the show. This gave them an obviously unfair competitive advantage.

Long Beach –

As bad as the traffic was for West Covina, the parking at Milikan High School was worse. A wormhole exists between the 10 freeway and that part of Long Beach, and every sucked up car was vomited up on the streets around Milikan HS. The closest parking was at the Queen Mary in the harbor.

Fruit smoothies in hollowed out pineapples! The best corps show concession snack EVER.

Jester must be marching a lot of invisible members, or maybe they were traveling on the 10.

SCV Cadets = a class act.

Is it possible for there to be more space between the stands and the field?

Pacific Crest avoided the parking problems by taking helicopters from the heliport at the Queen Mary. This gave them an obviously unfair competitive advantage.

Riverside –

More traffic problems when a car-be-que backed up traffic on the 60 (The 10’s sister freeway here in the San Gabriel Valley). Some of the judges were delayed, and it jacked up the judging and scoring for the senior corps. Of course, nobody cared.

Art’s has cheap martinis, but the prime rib has taken a real decline. Gonna have to go the brewery next year.

Skunks? Rampant skunks, skunks amok at RCC.

Fruit smoothies again. Wonderful stuff.

The RCC field looked great. It used to be the evil hybrid spawn of an unfortunate liaison between a Brillo pad and a Velcro strip, but it looked great on Saturday.

A beautiful half-moon shone through a velvety dark blue evening sky. Some things are just perfect.

Great crowd, gave it up for every corps.

Did I mention the Oregon Crusaders are the real deal?

Pacific Crest avoided the traffic problems by having the Riverside Transit Authority provide them with a high speed bullet train directly to Riverside from Diamond Bar. This gave them an obviously unfair competitive advantage.

Oh, and for everyone wondering if PC’s scores are right, don’t worry, they’re not.

They’re too low.

MY GOD!!! Oh MYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY GODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!

This ladies and gentlemen is how I'm doing reviews from now on!

Who cares about my babble fest with humor like this...GREAT uuuuh, review...or commentary. Yeah...that's it. Commentary. Witty repartee'. Funny #### Maynard!

Man that was good. I needed that.

And thank GOD you didn't mention the worm hole in Long Beach that somehow sucked what little brain I have out to cause me to have to place my cranial area far far UP my butt to keep the worm hole from sucking any MORE brain out of my head which would have probably caused me to announce Impulse as VK, and Phantom Regiment for an empty field.

GOD I SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah...probably the day AFTER the last show! From what I read on an earlier thread, the grass was just as high as before, i.e. break out the weed whacker...

Oregon Crusaders are going to win Div. III. By a lot.

Word....thir Riverside performance was unbelievable!!

Long Beach - Fruit smoothies in hollowed out pineapples! The best corps show concession snack EVER.

And the frickin' straws were long enough to use as guard equipment!!

Riverside – More traffic problems when a car-be-que backed up traffic on the 60 (The 10’s sister freeway here in the San Gabriel Valley). Some of the judges were delayed, and it jacked up the judging and scoring for the senior corps. Of course, nobody cared.

On the 60?? I know there was a car over the side on the 91 just west of Corona (set the brush on fire)...I got caught up in it for a few minutes.

Skunks? Rampant skunks, skunks amok at RCC.

*snicker* Saw one of the little buggers along the street side of the small practice field near the busses...got spooked and started running up the 50...didn;t stop until he reached the other side! Cute little thing, tho!

Now hoe about a real review of the three shows??? Particularly Riverside (Dream's best performance...the show we SHOULD'VE had at the first Riverside show!)
