sburstall Posted February 7, 2005 Share Posted February 7, 2005 Technicaly it would still work, its just that the people that use the Mid-Western corps will start the season scoring lower, then by finals everything would work out. It used the be, that after DCM the sheets would change to Div 2/3 sheets. But I dont know what it is now. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The real problem comes from converting D1 sheet scores to D2/3 sheet scores. Nobody has been able to do it correctly. So many shows have some Division 2/3 corps on Division 1 sheets, and other shows have them on Division 2/3 sheets. Also, corps don't compete as often in D2/3, therefore making for odd scoring. Why not just spread out the points more by giving the the division 2 and 3 corps less points than last season? Here is the problem I see... although both proposals in this thread sound like good ideas, if you limit each corp to using one corp per caption AND reduce the number of points, we will be limiting our options so much that we will end up with a lot of corps that are exactly the same captions and we will have a lot of ties. I hate to play devils advocate but the way it is makes it so there are lots of options which helps to keep from everyone having all the same captions. My two cents anyway. As for limiting options, a lot of directors have been using the same corps in particular captions (I doubt I'm giving away any secrets by telling how popular Crown's guard and Troopers' drumline were last season). Perhaps the exec director should from time to time examine caption values and adjust ones that In fact, I'll propose that right now: Title of Proposal: "Broken" captions: Description: The executive director shall have the authority to determine which captions are "broken" or do too much for the value they have, and adjust those values as he/she sees fit. Rationale: There are some caption choices that, due to their excellent value, have been overused by corps directors and have led to redundant scores in several captions, as witnessed by the Finals caption breakdowns over the last 3 seasons. Giving the ED the authority to adjust captions to a more realistic level would introduce a new level of competition by making managers consider more carefully their captions, and conceivably lead to a more diverse range of caption choices. I liked the idea of not allowing the same caption to be used by corps from the same director.
