xrifle
Whitey Meier was more than an occassional bus driver for the Phantom Regiment. I believe he was a member of the Board of Directors. His wife Sue was a bus mom for the at least the 77 and 78 tours. They were a dedicated corps family and his daughter is much more than the sum of a single performance. xrifle Kingsmen Cadets: Colorguard '73-'74 Anaheim Kingsmen: Winterguard '75, Rifle Royal Regiment Colorguard: Winterguard '76, Rifle Velvet Knights: '76, Rifle Phantom Regiment: '77-'78 Winterguard and Field season, Rifle

There must be literally THOUSANDS of drum corps Moms and Dads that gave as much to this activity as the rest of us, but don't get the celebrity status which IMHO, they so truly deserve. I believe EVERY drum corps had their beginnings with a few dedicated corps families that were "always there" for the corps. Unfortunately, as the kids age, they pass on into drum corps obscurity. :( How sad!!!

tommytimp
Hey, the "What Were You Doing When Elvis Died" thread had me reminiscing about '77, and I don't think there's been '77 trivia done yet!!!!! Get out your two-valve horns and join me in a trip back to the beginning of WGI and CCI...............and the death of the "7th Place Curse" *cue eerie music* :sshh: 6) Blue Stars --Name the '77 opener and the pejorative for the corps that resulted?? A medley of "Shema," "Hatikvah," and "Hava Nagila," which, I'm sure led the wits of the activity to call them the Jew Stars. Never saw a show until 1978. I read all my histree... That'll do until after the current season. Good luck, old farts!!!!!!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Tom Shea Knights 83-88 www.tomshea.blogspot.com
