RaidersWeb
Raiders Announce They Will Finish 2005 Season without Drum Major July 26, 2005 – Wayne, NJ The Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps of Wayne, NJ have announced to the members of their corps and their families and fans that they will finish the remainder of their 2005 DCI tour, which includes DCI finals week, without a Drum Major. The Corp learned late Monday, July 25, 2005, that the corps Drum Major, Adam Wierzbicki was contacted at the Raiders Camp Site in Trenton, NJ, by his family and was informed that he needed to leave tour and return home to his family as he needed to be at the bedside of a gravely ill family member. “The most important issue right now is Adam needs to be home with his family in this time of need. Our prayers and thoughts are with Adam and his family” said Corps Director, Tom Maiello. This is the second Drum Major that the Raiders have lost due to extreme circumstances this season. Early this year, with just two weeks before the corps first show in June, the corps learned that one of the members of the bass drum line could no longer march due to a rare medical condition. Scott Farkas, the corps first drum major and accomplished all around musician stepped down from the DM spot to fill the position that was open in the Bass Drum line. Corps Director Tom Maiello also added, “Other corps have gone an entire season by choice with out a drum major and they have been very successful. We look at this situation as a challenge and our members will find a way to overcome this setback and continue to have a very successful competitive season in DCI. “

HMMmmmm. Verrrrrrry interesting. And challenging? Isn't there an NYC orchestra (is it Orpheus?) who performs without a conductor?
arno0940
Best if luck Raiders. My heart goes out to Adam and his family. If any corps can rise up to meet this challenge, its the Raiders! Galen
So who will conduct the show?
RaidersWeb
So who will conduct the show? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Short answer... No one. Recently, at the Corps' week long rehearsal camp before traveling, the staff made some tweaks, minor changes and adjustments to allow for the full ensemble to remain self-sufficient throughout the show without a conductor. The results are really quite impressive.

arno0940
For sure it can.....In 1996 St. John's had the drum major step down from the podium and march a section of the show on Baritone.
