Kimberly
85-89! I held a trumpet this weekend, and 3 valves felt so bulky.
Lancerlady
Interesting looking mellophone, it does look like it could be a small French Horn though, I could see how you would think that... :)
JF_the_Elder
No disrespect to French horn players; I am one! The quote is from a favourite souvie button of mine that was around in the early 80's. It pictured an irate corps French hornist saying: "Yes, this 'goofy looking thing' is a French Horn!"Can anyone tell me if the horn pictured here is a French horn? Phantom horn I haven't seen too many three valve French horns up close and of course not too many corps march them anymore except I guess PR. If this is a Fench horn, is it in Bb? It looks short enough to be. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> PR hasn't used French Horns since 1992
ambassadorhorn
PR hasn't used French Horns since 1992 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So French Horns are only in use in senior corps now?
84BDsop
So French Horns are only in use in senior corps now? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Probably...the only corps I knwo of that has an actual French section is Renegades.
JF_the_Elder
So French Horns are only in use in senior corps now? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The last Division 1 corps to use actual French Horns were the Glassmen in 1997. BorisTS
Didn't Vanguard have a few french horns at least as late as 2001, maybe up until they switched to Yamaha in 2004? I remember a friend in their drumline telling me that in 2001, and I thought I saw some in 2003.

I know it's possible. I guess I would just like to know how and why Dynasty did this. :sshh:
BorisTS
Yes, but those were the Dynasty F French Horns that use trumpet fingerings, not Horn fingerings. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I had no idea what you were talking about until I went to Dynasty's webpage...I guess they really do have an F french horn like that (check it out, it has the same amount of tubing as an F mello, instead of twice as much). It's basically a mello with a larger bell, different wrap, and it takes a french horn mouthpiece. However, I was pretty sure the horns I saw looked different, like actual french horn tubing... Maybe they used the B-flat one, which does use horn fingerings and looks more like a french horn? But then, it's been a few years.
