ambassadorhorn
No disrespect to French horn players; I am one! The quote is from a favourite souvie button of mine that was around in the early 80's. It pictured an irate corps French hornist saying: "Yes, this 'goofy looking thing' is a French Horn!" Can anyone tell me if the horn pictured here is a French horn? Phantom horn I haven't seen too many three valve French horns up close and of course not too many corps march them anymore except I guess PR. If this is a Fench horn, is it in Bb? It looks short enough to be. Edited July 29, 2005 by ambassadorhorn
bd5times
Looks like a mellophone, Sam.
kiltiekemo
It's a mellophone. Look at the mouthpiece. The rim is way to wide for a frenchie. B)

B) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I thought that might be the case but put it down to glare. Thanks for clearing that up Rob and Kiltie. I didn't think there was enough conical tubing in there... 84BDsop
Besides...I don't think Rwgiment's used a Frenchie for years...
csugrad
According to the headline for the photo it says 2004 which means it is an F mellophone.
regularsopguy
Mellophone...look at the size of the mouthpiece. Looks like a King, but can't be certain. Have to assume, I guess, because Phantom plays King exclusively.

Kimberly
It looks normal to me... but then again, we marched Kings in the 80s, and they were the only horns I saw up close.
