MiamiSun76
Yesterday on the way to Allentown, Sirius had a great quote from Richard Wagner on their Classic Voices channel (for those of you who don't have Sirius, get it if you can). Classic Voices features a major Opera each month, and the August choice is Flying Dutchman. During the month, they have short historical segments about the opera. So Wagner was quoted as saying that to make opera great he would "write what no performer wanted to sing and no audience wanted to hear." Next train to Foxboro leaving on track

Eggbert
Comparing anything drum corps does with the greatness of Wagner is pompous and goofy. When Cadets or any other corps makes it into the music history books, let me know.

He was using a quote made by Wagner and applying it to another medium.

MiamiSun76
I don't understand... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It struck me odd that Wagner was saying that the real redemption for his idiom (opera) was to make it so unappealing that no one would want to perform or hear it. There are a few folks who think our idiom (drum corps) is currently in the same mode.
chris ncsu
Ok, that's what I thought but I wanted to be sure.
