Morgoth Bauglir
whoa whoa whoa....i understand your point. it is CLEARLY a valid one...not everyone who goes to the YEA International Camp is looking for a spot at cadets. but to imply that everyone who IS auditioning for the cadets is focused only on getting a ring...that's a little insulting to them, i think. again, not saying your point is valid...but be careful of your words next time. I wasn't trying to say that. But the original post does seem tio imply to me that everyone who goes to the camp would jump at the chance of being offered a spot in the Cadets, only marching Crossmen to gain experiance. I was saying that there are in fact a great number of people who just don't want to march Cadets, no matter if they could make it or not. And I don't mean to paint with too broad of a paintbrush here, but from my observations, the people who audtion for a whole bunch of corps and pick the highest placed one they can make are usually the same people who are in fact, looking for a ring. Sorry if I offended anyone.

I think maybe this iimpression was created by the rumor of how they do auditions. I have no first hand knowledge to know one way or the other, but the RUMOR I used to hear was that everyone was auditioned together, and the better kids went to Cadets. I can't remember who I had heard talking about it, but they had been talking about how "Crossmen can never place ahead of Cadets", simply because of the way the auditions were done. Again, it was just rumors that some believed to be true and accurate, but we all know how that goes.
XmenBlondie
I think maybe this iimpression was created by the rumor of how they do auditions. I have no first hand knowledge to know one way or the other, but the RUMOR I used to hear was that everyone was auditioned together, and the better kids went to Cadets. Everyone doesn't audition together. I know when I marched, there were separate camps, as well as the "International camps". If you knew you wanted to audition for Crossmen, you went to the Crossmen camp, and vice versa. I personally, had no desire to march Cadets, as I know many people who have marched Crossmen feel the same - we go to Crossmen to be a Crossmen, and for no other reason. In my understanding, the International camps, when they were started - the main reason they held them, was to give kids the opportunity to audition for a corps that they wanted to, who might not necessarily be close by to them. For example, if Joe Schmo wanted to try out for Carolina Crown, but could not get down to SC to make an audition camp, because he lived in NJ, he could attend one of the international camps that was held closer to his area. I believe there were staffs from all of the corps that were part of the process at the time, in attendance at these camps. I never attended an international camp myself, because I was lucky enough to be in close proximity to where Crossmen rehearsed, as well as I knew which corps I wanted to audition with - as stated before. But my previous explanation, was how it was explained to me - as a member. Hope that helps.
