TommySopranoContra
I seem to love the mello arrangements in Phantom Regiment 2003.
ssorrell
While the mellophone lines of today can put out some volume, I must admit that I am more impressed by many of the mellophone lines from the 80s. Most of the lines in the 80's didn't have 14 to 16 players - more like 4 to 8. Many od the Madison, BD and SCV lines could put out some serious volumen with only a few players. Word. Spirit's great mello lines of the late 70s and early 80s...FOUR players.

Jared_mello
On topic: Glassmen 99 was loooovely! Made me swoon, oh how I love mellos. Still waiting for an answer, does anyone know if they marched more than the usual twelve or so? For those of you such as myself who love the '99 show/mello line and book, be sure to listen to 1998 as well. They seemed a bit more precise in '99, but the extremely prevalent color within the ensemble sound was still there. Blue Knights have had a pretty significant mid-voice sound in the last few years. The '98 book was harder in terms of the keys that were used 3. Only 12 mellos each year 4. Larry Markiewicz's first two years as caption head 5. I was section leader both years :P Joe 3rd horn, Orquesta Sinfonica Sinaloa Glassmen '95-'99 BD '00-'

Amazing, that there were only 12. You guys either fared incredibly well at auditions, or Larry likes a LOT of mello sound within his ensembles. Either way, the product was incredible. Were you the soloist during both years as well? Thanks for the response.
