Too much Trumpet, Not enough Mello!

Recommended Posts

I think that in hornlines now there is too much of a trumpet sound instead of mellophones!

I think that is ok for power sections and bitey backgrounds, etc but I think that melodic stuff and chords should be more mello dominated in the high brass, mello just makes such a gorgeous sound :)

Any opinions?

I tend to agree...I dunno if it's the way a lot of the writing is now, but there's a lot more "pinch" in the sound in some places.

I think it's the Bb horns. And the amps. ^0^ ^0^ ^0^

Yes this is because trumpets are all taking over the world! They are a cylindrical instrument, which makes more of a powerful noise rather than colorful.

Aren't all Bb valve bell front horns cylindrical? That's one of the differences in sound between Bb and G - G bugles are conical (so are trombones). Correct me if I'm wrong. (Oh, yeah, this is DCP so I'm sure someone will!!)

What is going on?? :rock::rock::rock:

Bawker and I have taken over your thread.

All your Bb horn are belong to us.

Seriously though, I think it has to do with the change from G to Bb.
