Teaching 'Drum Corps'?

Recommended Posts

I think the "drum corps mantra" really teaches itself. It is a little different from corps to corps but you basically have the same thing. You know some corps are more intense than others, they do some things differently like they way they hold their horns or the way they prepare themselves for a show, pre-show hype, that sort of thing. I also think that whether a drum corps really becomes a drum corps depends a lot on who's leading the corps. In 2004, Music City Legend was still somewhat of a "corps-in-training" but in 2005 when we added the full guard and drumline it really became a drum corps. That was an exciting day the first time we had our full ensemble rehearsal in '05. I exclaimed, "Ladies and gentlemen, we have ourselves a drum corps!"
