Powder Springs, GA Show Parking Concerns

Recommended Posts

I have heard that parking is going to be a major problem this year for the show at McEachern HS on Friday. Apparently they have a lot of construction going on in the lots by the stadium and parking will not be permitted in the surrounding neighborhoods. Does anyone have any input on where they will allow us to park?

As I understand it, the parking lot that is possibly being used as a construction staging area is part of the area behind the school that has been used in the past for corps bus parking. The folks at McEachern are splitting the corps bus parking up between that lot and another lot on the back side of the campus.

The main spectator parking lot adjacent to the stadium should not be affected by the construction. That being said, even with that lot totally available, it will likely fill completely, so the best thing is to get there early.

A couple dozen or so parking places are given up for construction staging areas, but not to any substantial effect on parking overall.

We can't "officially" recommend any alternative parking sites outside the school, unfortunately :(

Parking there is not as good as at some stadiums, but a lot better than some other city stadium sites :)

Carpooling by leaving a vehicle offsite and meeting up with a friend or two is encouraged. Getting there early is even more encouraged -- the box office opens at 5:30.

Drum Corps Planet "insider tip" -- there'll be a special presentation after the show, and you'll get to hear Spirit play "Georgia" conducted by a very special guest. Stick around for the encore B)

I don't expect parking to be too bad since some major corps aren't going to be there. My bet is to arrive really early and park at the churches close by and walk down. Or if you get there early enough one of the drum corps might pick you up and give oyu a lift down.

Based on that map, there seems to be plenty of room to park on that baseball field. After all, it is for a drum corps show, and what could possibly be more important than a drum corps show :P .

Kansas, you just gave me my first giggle of the day :P

That baseball field is the "baby" of the coach, who keeps up the grass on it like it's Augusta National. The facilities use form we filled out has "No Baseball Field" in big ol' letters all over it. It was, no kidding, named one of the top 5 baseball fields in the state of Georgia. Around here, we gotta support youth baseball, 'cause the poor Braves have been having a hard time this summer :(

Speaking of baseball, check out the big statue at the show Friday, right in the middle of the souvie marketplace -- a long time ago, he stood in the stands at the old Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium! (another DCP Insider Tip!)
