CloudFuel
Well, we all know that the judges "allow" room at the top when going from scoring 23 to 17.. and they'll do it again when we drop to 12.. I don't know if that's necessarily "slotting" but seems more like judging relative to score/corps as opposed to judging relative to the definitions of each caption/box. Either way.. here's where we stand so far: Corps_____Qrtr_______Semi____Diff 17. Mandarins - (78.375) - (77.875) = (-.500) 16. Capital Regiment - (81.925) - (80.825) = (-1.100) 15. Crossmen - (82.675) - (81.250) = (-1.425) 14. Blue Stars - (82.225) - (81.525) = (-.700) 13. Colts - (84.625) - (83.050) = (-1.575) 12. Spirit - (86.525) - (85.275) = (-1.250) 11. Glassmen - (88.125) - (86.275) = (-1.850) 10. Madison Scouts - (88.250) - (87.950) = (-.300) 09. Boston Crusaders - (89.325) - (88.775) = (-.550) 08. Blue Knights - (89.650) - (89.350) = (-.300) 07. Carolina Crown - (89.675) - (90.275) = (+.600) 06. Bluecoats - (92.975) - (93.500) = (+.525) 05. Santa Clara Vanguard - (92.375) - (93.550) = (+1.175) 04. The Cadets - (93.475) - (93.625) = (+.150) 03. Phantom Regiment - (96.025) - (96.825) = (+.800) 02. Blue Devils - (96.525) - (97.000) = (+.475) 01. The Cavaliers - (96.900) - (97.875)= (+.975) Edited August 12, 2006 by CloudFuel

stxmoose32
I think this occurs because it keeps judges from giving what appear to be undeservedly (even embarassingly) low scores. As fewer and fewer corps remain, it is easier to give an accurate spread from the start of the show. In order to do that in Quarterfinals, that means giving Pioneer a score that would just be.....welll......not nice. In all honesty, the quality of the bottom corps has not dropped, but their spread may have in comparison to the top corps.
CloudFuel
Ok so... the results explain everything from last night... * BK becomes the highest placing corps to see a score drop and CC becomes the lowest placing corps to see a score increase.. which in turn opens a gap between the two. * SCV sees the largest increase just above the Cavaliers with a jump of over 1.000 and while BC and the Cadets increased as well.. the increases were VERY small in comparison... in fact the Cadets had the smallest increase of all of the corps of today. * You'll also notice that from 16 to 11 (minus the Blue Stars) every single corps had over a 1.000 decrease. This of course helped to push the Blue Stars up over the Xmen and since the Gmen had a huge decrease and Madison did not.. that opened another big spread. * The final spread is between PR, BD, and the Cavaliers which saw PR have the third biggest increase of the night under SCV & the Cavaliers. This, coupled with BD's slights increase, pushed PR up near BD.. but because the Cavaliers had such a large increase, this kept the top 3 from being any closer than it was last night. - Tonight should be interesting! I expect an increase from SCV, BC, Cavs, BD, & PR.

PR may possibly jump by BD. IMO BD had a much cleaner vis perf than Reg last nite. They were "tight".
