This is why I love DCP. This thread right next to the "lolcorps" thread. Gotta love it! -
Finals suggestion for the future
stxmoose32 replied to dciguy01's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
With the vastly improving quality of 7-15 placing corps, I'll be ###### if I go along with anything that 1) gives the kids fewer chances to perform and 2) gives me fewer chances to see them. Let's focus on intelligently expanding the activity in a way that embraces education and participation rather than exclusivity. If I only want to see the top seven corps, I'll just show up late. -
I would love to see this done over multiple seasons to see if there are trends for certain corps. Which ones pick up when? Which ones stall mid-season? There has to be some correlation with director goals, or staff, or operations. Y'know?

Stanford alum stuck in Kentucky for the week :( Is, by far, the best stadium for drum corps I've ever been in. Will be at Finals, though B) -
Academy...why the special treatment, DCI
stxmoose32 replied to fick's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
As the only person in DCP who has yet to post on this thread, I feel compelled to weigh in... Testicles! That is all Troy P.S. In all seriousness, just let corps do what's best for them and don't penalize them for doing it. That's why DCI was founded, and they seem to be doing an OK job of sticking to it. Go Academy! -

Does someone have the skills to make a Google Maps mashup of rehearsal sites? That would be pretty awesome, if you ask me. Thanks Troy -

Are we pointing fingers here? I mean, I'm kind of a big guy, but the internet is a series of pretty big tubes. It's not like I'm poker chips or something here. :P

I wish this forum was still called "In the Stands." I really liked that name for some reason.

Your first Drum Corps Moment
stxmoose32 replied to jgarnreiter's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
My brother's first year with the Cavaliers was 2002 (Frameworks). My parents, having little clue what this thing their son has decided to spend his summer (and money) doing, take us up to Toledo to see his first show. And, of course, we get there early and head to the rehearsal site. I get out of the car. It's a crisp early afternoon with the promise of sweltering heat soon. I hear Jeff Fiedler on the speaker system talking about God knows what. No drums. No horns. Just Jeff. In fact, it was so utterly silent I remember being shocked when I saw that there were 135 young men there. I've never seen that many people be that quiet. Anyway, Jeff finishes his point and says, "OK, let's go." This is his cue to do a run-through of the show. My first drum corps experience was watching a Frameworks run-though from the 50 yard line, field level. Now many of you will know, that show was not known for its blast-your-face sound. But when they did that first impact in the opener (after the solos)...oh, sweet jesus. That was a sound that could make a woman's clothes melt away. The anticipation, precision, intonation. It was unlike anything I had ever heard...or felt. It was as if the air around me suddenly changed, like I was in a vacuum or something. It's what I imagine "the force" to feel like. To this day, whether via APD or DVD, that moment still gives me goosebumps. -
I started following drum corps the summer of 2002. I can't imagine what it was like before DCP. Thank, George, for saving me the trouble of having to experience it.
