txtubadude
With the void of losing a crops in the Delaware valley how do you think it will effect recruiting for Raiders and Jersey Surf. Will this give Surf the incentive to move to D1? (notice I didn;t say move up because both corps are class acts already) Will Raiders make a run at the D2 crown? I think the move more affected Revolution. From the looks off their forums, they are still looking for several numbers in brass and guard this late in the season. hayleyfly
Back when I marched Surf -- a long time ago, I know...but we always had like half the world trying out for the snare line. I mean seriously, what corps doesn't have like 1/2 a gym of drum pads first camp?? I have no idea how they've been the last two years, but yeah the number of people trying out for snare spots is totally not a good stat to go by. lol. Hopefully they're doing well though - Surf's up. I went back to visit at the Thanksgiving November camp for the beginning of the 2007 season. During show and tell, there was a line of guys stretching from one side of the gymnasium to the other, all on snare. Behind each snare drummer was at least one other person waiting for their turn to play. Ridiculous.

Mark Time
Having a semi/trailer, busses and a food truck they (Surf) are probably the most equiped to do a full D1 tour. That's good to have but also they'd have to make some major changes in order to be competitive in Div I. They'd have to start all-days much earlier. According to this years Surf calendar they don't go into all-days till the last week of June. Corps dues would also probably have to be increased. The combination of more expensive dues and less time for summer jobs will make it more difficult for members to be able to march, obviously. Should they choose to remain a more community based corps or sacrifice that to be more competitive in Div I? It all depends on what direction the administration chooses to go.
