Byron
i think it's cool to look back and realize that a corps such as the glassmen averaged in 24th during the 80s, and is now a perennial finalist. perhaps in 20 years we'll look back and see the same thing for corps such as esperanza, pacific crest and southwind? bluecoats88
not sure how you did your averaging but I don't think it was very accurate. Depending on which years you used for the 80's (1980-1989 - or the actual decade 1981-1990) but if you used either of those groups of years for the bluecoats you would have gotten the following results. 1980-1989 - 22.33 1981-1990 - 19.

Bluecoats made top 25 in '85 with a 15th place finish and never got below that (and I used '80 to '89). I wasn't anal enough to put ALL placements because then the list would get really, really long. SkyRyder_FMM
I don't understand these calculations. They seem to be only looking at placement once in top 25, but ignore placement outside of top 25 in other years that would lower the averages. I'm not sure how either was done, but Cadets just doesn't look correct to me. No rhyme or reason and I haven't looked back to see how many #1s they had in the 80s, but I know there were at least 4.......I guess it must be correct... I wasn't anal enough to put ALL placements because then the list would get really, really long. you only used when they placed in top 25? then how can you claim it is the average placement of a corps in the 80's you should use all placements. 1980 - 35th 1981 - 31st 1982 - 33rd 1983 - inactive 1984 - 29th 1985 - 28th 1986 - 15th 1987 - 11th 1988 - 11th 1989 - 8th this averages out to 22.33 which is the Bluecoats average placement in the 80's Although technically the decade of the 80's goes from 1981-1990 so for that the average would be 19.33 due to the 8th place finish in 1990. and your list wouldn't be that long if you still limited it to only corps that made top 25 during the 80's even though you used all of those corps 80's placements. They were not first more than they were first. If the 1980 10th place finish was removed, then thier average would be 3.000 instead of 3.7000. They would still be ranked 3rd in the list. No change in position. Edited October 16, 2006 by sburstall

ONLY THOSE THAT MADE THE TOP 25 in any given year. If they didn't make the top 25 the position never got averaged in.
