Phirefenix
Bluecoats lines in 05-06 were wicked pissa. #### good stuff going on there. PR's 05 soli was the balls as well. The last note of PR's ballad in 02, another sweet moment. Star of Indiana 86. The mother of all contra soli's. I seriously wish I could have marched that section. Medeabrass
Star of Indiana 86. The mother of all contra soli's. I seriously wish I could have marched that section. Amazing what 20 contras will do for a soli right?!!! We need more of that. I hope Phantom puts most of the member increase in '08 towards contras ...kidding...well not really. I can't remember a soli in Star '90 per se but I remember coming away from my first live viewing of the show raving about the contras. I guess you could say they had a lot of exposed parts for the contras that weren't necessarily featuring them. Didn't the contras in '92 Crossmen lay down a pretty kick arse ostinato? Didn't Cavies have a pretty cool contra ostinato last year? Man, I gotta get the CDs out and do some homework. By the way, can we call them Basses these days instead of Tuba? Something about the word tuba brings up nightmarish images of fiberglass Sousaphones lol :P edit: BTW Aggie Dan, if you're reading this, shoot me a IM sometime...old BQ here...it's rare to find a DC Ag :) Edited April 21, 2007 by Medeabrass

charphar
Way back when (the old ph@rt says, with a twinkle in his eye B) )... ~How 'bout the 1974-75 Muchachos' "Marianne"? B) ~How 'bout the 1975 Blue Devils' "Squib Cakes"? B) ~How 'bout 457 corps' mid-1970s versions of "Children of Sanchez"? B) And speaking of contras...(the old ph@rt says, getting ready to duck )... ~How come it only took 4 or 5 contras (in those 457 corps in the mid-1970s, for instance) to sound as good as what, 10, 12-or more today? Just wondering... B)
Jocko the Wonder Llama
For All you newbies: North Star 79-81 Yeah, but didn't "Moose" get a pie in the face for his efforts?
fourouttheforty
There was really really weird one after the ballad in BD's show last season. Phantom 1996 has to be the mother of all tuba solis.
ContrasAreFun
Not exactly a soli, but I like to think back to Cavi's in 2005 during the second tune. Those contra players had some balls to get up that high. ^0^
Caveman28469
Glassmen this past season had one for their ballad. You can't hear it very well on my recording but it was pretty loud in person.
Slow Adam
Phantom 1996 has to be the mother of all tuba solis. but they were contras back then :P Also in 1996, Cadets had a three player contra soli.
