Somewhere on DCP there was an ancient pic of a corps from Oswego, NY, not the Black Knights, and we thought you may have been in the pic.

Hi Keith

prior to #### Hoppe and I forming the Black Knights, Oswego had a long drum corps history...

I'm not familiar with the picture. Where is it? I'd love to identify who's in it...

Oswego VFW Post 2320 drum corps - wore Khaki and white army helmets (my bro and I started here)

they became

Oswego Pathfinders (James Fennemore Cooper wrote "the Pathfinder" while living in Oswego) - dark green pants, yellow satin blouse, green trim... green gestapo hat

they were through the 50's a very active parade corps - which allowed me to grow up in drum corps - I was actually teaching the horn line before I left them in 1958/1959 at a VERY young age...

Then, in nearby Mexico, NY we had the Mexico Grey Barons... full west point military with shako grey and red... great uniform

I marched my first field contest with them in 1959... (I actually remember it was in Sydney NY in the Catskills)

Later in the mid 60's Oswego Pathfinders merged with Mexico Grey Barons and formed the Shoremen... (actually called Pulaski, NY home) Hoppe was more involved in them than I, although I did teach them for a bit... Although all aged with great guys like the late Larry LaVeck, they were a "stepping stone" for us forming the Black Knights in 1967 as we wanted a competitive JUNIOR corps.

In the fall of 1959, I became a charter member of the Fulton Gauchos and stayed there until joining Crusaders in 1964-65

One mention about Oswego's long history... as a kid, I belonged to St. Peter's RC church and hanging in the back of the church was a picture of St. Peter's drum corps in 1905. This remains one of the oldest pictures I've ever seen of a true drum and bugle corps...

that's truly funny.... DCP won't allow the nick name for "Richard" when used as a name????

(see my previous post where I mention #### Hoppe)

ok guys, I think we have the "G" rated parameters a bit too tight.

Found it Keith...

That is amazing... so I was off by 3 years... that is the exact picture I remember seeing hanging in the sanctuary... and I had NO idea what you were talking about... and I was actually a member of that parish... I hope Steve Vickers or someone saved that for posterity... obviously I'm copying it to my hard drive...

anyway... it still begs the question... can anyone come up with a corps photo OLDER than that one?
