  1. You're both quite welcome. I'm glad that you were able to see what was a FINE show last night - with all the corps putting-on great performances. Its been hard to imagine that its only June 20-something this week - with the quality of the shows we've seen. Of-course, our own Ryan H Turner (the Voice of drum corps in Southern California) did a great job again .... keeping the program moving. And HOW ABOUT those KINGSMEN? WOWOWOWOWOWOW What a moment in history. I can only imagine what they have in-store for us next August in Pasadena. Kudos to Stuart Pompel and the Pacific Crest organization .... as well as Alan Cox and the folks at Esperanza .... for a couple of really great shows in SoCal the past two nights. GREAT JOB, folks. Tonite the tour moves to Riverside .... and we'll be there. C'ya at the show. -john
  2. OK ...... I'm outa here and on my way to the stadium. We've made 5 people VERY happy this afternoon. C'ya at the show. -john
  3. I have a few tickets available for the DCI Show in Walnut this evening. I realize it is LATE notice .... but if there's someone that would like a GREAT seat (Sec C - Row 25 or 29) - send me a PM with your contact info (incl phone number) and we'll work out the details. The price ..... FREE! Don't delay - because I'll be leaving home for the stadium around 2:00pm. See ya at the show tonite. -john
  4. I'll be there. If you see me wandering around in my DCP-gear ...... stop me and say hello. -john
  5. IMHO, I think the music stands on its own - without regard to the content or storyline of the movie trilogy. For me, the melodic theme is just one of those signatures that you 'get'. Nino Rota, the composer of the film score, was an accomplished composer well before he wrote the Godfather soundtrack - including credits for some 152 films, including Fellini's "Romeo and Juliet". Definately see the movies ..... but I don't think they're a pre-requisite for appreciating the passion of the music. My $0.02. -john
  6. Welcome to the site John! We're glad you're here and hope you enjoy the lively discussion. Please be sure to let us know if there's something we can do to help. -john (lower-case 'j')
  7. Jayzer, Many of us run FireFox as our default browser (1.5.0.4 here) ... and I can assure you that all software changes are validated against FireFox (under Windows and LINUX), Internet Explorer (at-least 3 different releases) and Safari under OS/X. Yes, there are NUMEROUS browser versions that are out there - but our statistical reports indicate that they represent a very small minority of our visitors. I'll ignore your editorial comments on our professionalism and offer to work thru the solution of your problem. Please advise, via PM, the specific version of the browser you're running .... the operating system and release ..... and network configuration, as well as the frequency of occurance and circumstances underwhich the 'annoying error' occurs. As mentioned earlier - we will want to ensure that your browser cache has been cleared. I suspect you have a local problem, as there have been no reports of any issues similar to your description. I'll look forward to your note, with the requested information. -john
  8. Tonite's show in Bakersfield was ~HOT~ .... meteorologically and on the field. I'll leave the reviews up to those that are more gifted in that area .... however, I can say that this is gonna be a GREAT year for drum corps fans. There's a number of REALLY good shows out there this season - and the fans seem to be 'getting it' pretty quickly. The data from the shows around the country this evening have been added to the DCP Caption Ranking System database, so the stats are up-to-date. We'll be in San Diego on Friday, Walnut on Saturday, and Riverside on Sunday. If you see one of us in our DCP Staff shirts - be sure to say hello. -john
  9. Give me a few days (I'm off to see some drum corps shows this week/weekend) and let me see what I can do to fix this 'problem'. We'd like the database to be as-complete as possible. We'll do our best to get the scores into the database as quickly as we can. DCI does not provide an interface for the data - so much of the transcription work is manual ... but that may change in the future as-well .... along with support for DCA scores. Thank you for your kind words ... and THANKS to Steve for his work on this project. -john
  10. Thanks all for your comments on the Scores/Stats page. First let me say - We LOVE DCA and have no intention to slight our All-Age members and fans. The DCP Caption Ranking System was created several years ago with a focus on the DCI scores by Steve Musumeche. Steve did a great job in providing a tool that allowed readers to move beyond the 'box scores' format of the recap page and do some actual comparisons over time between the various corps. The scoring grid is consistent and the code and database were created to handle the specific DCI captions. With my purchase of the site and our new partnership with DCA this year - we've been focused on quite a number of things to help support DCA and bring more information about this organization to our readers. However, when it came time to turn-up the scoring system for the season, we found the obvious 'hole' in our stats engine. After having a quick look at the existing code - it appears that a major change would be required to accomodate the DCA scores. We're going to continue to look at the problem and try to find a solution we can implement this season ... without negatively affecting the remainder of the stats system and site. If not - we will have a new solution in-place for 2007. In the mean time, we will continue to support DCA and its members to our best ability, with the tools and resources we have, and hope you'll look forward to our expanded coverage from DCA Championships this Labor Day weekend. Thank you for your continuing support -john
  11. THANKS for noticing!! And, yes ..... we keep this info up all year-round. In-fact, you'll even find statistics and caption rankings and scoring history for all DCI Div I, II, and III corps for the past few years. GREAT reference material for those that are interested. Thank you to our friends at Dynasty for sponsoring this DCP feature! -john
  12. I got nuttin, so far ....... HOWEVER, I'll be in Bakersfield and plan to be at ALL of the remaining shows in California this season ...... so will have updates as they're available. -john
  13. John, Thank you for your kind comments and question. Yes, after hearing from a number of users that they were simply not aware of our other forums - we decided to move the Community Forums to the top of the page, in the hopes of providing greater visibility to some of these important areas of the Forums. Our new Volunteer Exchange can play a significant role in helping corps get thru these difficult summer months of touring by providing them a place let their particular needs be known to our community. We'll also be seeing a large influx of new members throughout the summer .... and we want to make sure that they have an opportunity to introduce themselves to the community and be properly welcomed by our members. I have NO questions that our members and visitors will be able to find the DCI and DCA forums .... and believe the slight inconvenience of having to scroll a few lines down for those forums is not that burdensome. However, if it is ... you can always click on the 'minimize' icon on the upper right corner of any forum category, and the entire section will be reduced to a single line. Please take a moment to consider the value to the community these forums provide ... and the benefit the bit of additional exposure provides. I hope you and others can see that .... and support our format change. Thank you again for your comments .... and support of the Drum Corps Planet community. Best regards, -john P.S. Three words ..... "SCROLL WHEEL MOUSE" I don't believe I could navigate the internet without one. I'm completely lost when I have to use the touch-pad on my notebook computer - so much so that I keep an external mouse (with scroll-wheel) in my computer bag to use while on-the-road.
  14. We've done all the hard work for you already .... have a look at the DCP Caption Ranking System. Not only can you see each Div I, II, or III corps' relative placement for overall scores - but you can also see individual caption rankings as-well. One of the really neat features is the ability to compare two corps' relative performance against each other - and see how they measure-up on a caption-by-caption basis. Of course, the DCP forums are the BEST place to discuss the statistics and offer your comments on scores and performances throughout the season. Enjoy, -john
  15. Thanks! We're working on getting previous years' data to add to the database - but have nothing specific to report at this time. -john
  16. DrumCorpsPlanet is thrilled to announce the introduction of the DCP Volunteer Exchange - a forum that allows Corps that are in-need of volunteers to make that need known to the DCP community ... and for our members to offer their services to the activity, where needed. The drum corps community is well known for having great volunteers, willing to help out where needed - but often those needs go unknown. The Volunteer Exchange provides an effective way for the two, needs and volunteers, to be matched-up. If your organization has a particular need for the current season or something in the future - post a request on the DCP Volunteer Exchange forum. Or, if you're willing to help a Corps in a particular area - post the details. We will request that NO personal contact information be provided thru the forums and that all communication be handled thru email or private messages (PM). Thank you for your support of this worthwhile project. -john
  17. According to our DCP Caption Ranking System database - the Blue Devils posted a 76.15 at Pleasant Hill on June 18th. FYI - you can find individual caption and complete score history for EVERY DCI corps at the DCP Caption Ranking System page .... along with side-by-side corps comparisons and ranking for every caption during the season, as well as the past few seasons. Have a look and keep up-to-date on where your favorites are placed throughout the season. -john
  18. HEY ...... WAIT A SECOND!!! How about our very OWN DrumCorpsPlanet Scores/Stats page? We've updated the Caption Ranking System to allow you to look at previous years' stats ...... allowing side-by-side comparisons, caption rankings, and loads of other information. Sure, we don't have the pretty icons .... but there's a LOT of information that's easily available - including full stats for DCI Division I, II, and III. Have a look at the DCP Stats Page ....... and visit it often thru the season. -john P.S. - and a BIG THANKS to our friends at Dynasty for sponsoring our DCP Caption Ranking System.
  19. I was in Concord this weekend for Family Day, had a fantastic time, and REALLY enjoyed the show. It was great catching-up with some old friends .... and seeing all 3 of the BD Corps on the field. Yes, the 'bench' IS deep ..... as you can see from this picture of the combined A, B, and C-Corps. Photo Copyright © 2006 - John Donovan FWIW - I like the new A-Corps uniforms ..... and suggest that everyone wait until they see them on the field before passing judgement. -john
  20. The dialog has been started and, as noted in the Press Release regarding our new partnership for 2006, DCA and DCP are looking at ways to bring the DCA Championships to a wider audience. As Tom notes, there are a number of issues to work thru - but I can tell you that Drum Corps Planet will be on-hand in Rochester and will bring our resources to-bear to support DCA for this great event, in the way they feel is best for the organization and activity. Of course, there's nothing like being there in-person ..... which I'm really looking forward to for myself and members of our DCP staff. Stay tuned for more information as we get closer to Labor Day. -john
  21. The Winner was announced on May 2 in the news section of DrumCorpsPlanet.com. Our congratulations to HornlineDiva, who submitted the winning essay! She'll be heading to the DCI World Championships in August to join us for the shows. This article probably moved off the front page pretty quickly. HINT: The Search function at the top of the front page will help you find any article that has been published in the news sections. Hopefully, we'll find someone to win this week's tickets - who will be joining us also. Good Luck!! -john
  22. Folks - PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE read the rules! We have had to disqualify several people for entering this contest more than one time. The Official Rules clearly state: "Submission of more than one Entry per Entrant per Contest will result in ALL Entries for the Entrant being removed from consideration and the Entrant immediately disqualified from the Contest." This caution is also repeated on the Contest Form itself - for those that didn't read the rules, as requested. For those trying to beat the 50/50 odds of getting the answer correct by entering twice - you'll have to try again in another contest. Sorry - but we have to be fair in our application of the rules to everyone. GOOD LUCK! -john
  23. Yep - we're givin away another pair of SUPER PREMIUM (Section E, Row 30-31) tickets to the DCI World Championships in Madison this summer. See the front page of DrumCorpsPlanet.com for more information and a link to the Official Entry Form. Good luck !! -john
  24. This contest closes this evening at midnight (PDST) - so be sure to get your entries in .... then look for the winner to be announced on Monday, June 5th. Good Luck!! -john
  25. Welcome Mark!! We're most happy to have you with us .... and hope that many other drum corps fans/fanatics find Drum Corps Planet. Hopefully, you'll be successful in your efforts to attend the DCI show in Pasadena. Living here in SoCal - I can assure you it'll be a GREAT place to see drum corps next summer. Kind regards, -john
