wesleyrp Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 (edited) So, I am sitting here reading the thread about smallest hornline and it gave me an idea.... I know about some things in drum corps history, but maybe not nearly as much as I should. So, I thought it'd be fun to Play....... The First Annual 4th of July Drum Corps Trivia Quiz.......... Now it might be fun to ask you things I know, but some of these questions I don't and I'm relying on your knowledge 1) (a) What is the longest running Active Corps in DCI today? (b) Who is the oldest competitive corps in history? (either still going or extinct) 2) What corps got their roots from Boy Scout Troops? 3) Who was the first drum corps champion before DCI and when DCI came about? What year was the dates to these champions? 4) What was the most amount of Div 1 (World Class now) corps to compete in one year, and what year did it happen? 5) What stadium has hosted the most DCI World Championships? 6) Who was the Director if the Anaheim Kingsman when they won the DCI Title? 7) (a) Who was the first drum corps to win two DCI titles? (b) Who was the first to win three, what was the year? 8) Who has the most (a)Percussion and (b)Brass victories in DCI World Finals history? 9) What was the first year that Colorguard Performance was added to the judging sheet as a seperate caption, who was the first Guard winner? 10) Who has been in the most DCI World Finals over the years? 11) Who has neve made DCI Finals in Div 1/World Class? 12) How many times did the Top 6 of Finals consist of Cavaliers, Madison, Phantom, SCV, BD and Cadets? What years did this occur? 13) When was the last time a corps other than Star of Indiana made the Top 3 at DCI Finals? 14) Other than Alaska, or Hawaii, name a state that has never had a Div 1/World Class Corps? 15) (a) Who was the longest tenured Director of a corps in hstory, how many years? (b) Who are the top 3 longest tenured Active Corps Directors today, what corps are they with? If you can get more than three you're doing well, some may not be able to have a definitive answer, but we'll see.... Good Luck and let's see those answers.... BRASSO Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 (edited) So many questions.... so little time. I'll start of with the answer to the first question, which I believe might be " The Racine Scouts, from Racine, Wisconsin " ( longest competing Drum Corps in Drum Corps history ) Edited July 4, 2009 by BRASSO Quote
CrunchyTenor Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 1. Racine Scouts 2. Currently, or historically? 3. Which Championship? VFW? American Legion? CYO? US Open? World Open? 4. 1983. 63 corps competed in Prelims, Quarters, Semis and Finals 5 Camp Randall, UW-Madison 6. Don Wells. Don Porter had already resigned. 7. a) SCV 73, 74 b) SCV 78 8. This is not easy to determine. Do we only consider performance? The way scores are awarded has changed many times in the history of DCI. That said, here's a WAG. Brass - Blue Devils (no contest), 22. Percussion - Tie/ BD and SCV, 9 each. 9. 2000, Cavaliers 10. SCV, all of them (37) 11. The list of who HAS is shorter. 12. Six - 87, 88, 94, 95, 96, 05 13. ????? Star only made top-3 4 times, 90-93. So, what's the real question? 14. Idaho, South Dakota, North Dakota, New Mexico, Utah and Nevada for starters. 15. a) Don Warren - 60 years. b) Hopkins (Cadets), Gibbs (Blue Devils) and Arnold (Blue Knights) I think I got more than three. What do I win? Garry in Vegas Quote
ElSuarez Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 For #13 Technically the answer is 2008 (Phantom, BD and Cavies) But I think you were trying to ask is "Other than Star in 1990, when was the last time a new corps broke into the top 3." The Cavies broke in to the top 3 (3rd) in 1986. Quote
jpaul Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 (edited) 15. a) Don Warren - 60 years. Actually, Don Warren was only corps director until 1973 giving him 25 years in the position. He was president of the board until December of '08, making 60 years in that job. (Thanks, Don!) #15. Maybe Jim Jones. Edited July 4, 2009 by jpaul Quote

As for the Champion question before DCI, it really can be any of those events(VFW etc...)..... But I'm looking specifically for the first chamionship of any kind held in drum corps... I honestly don't know but I wanted to know how far back some type of Drum Corps Chamionship was held and if so who might have been the first? WP Quote
wesleyrp Posted July 4, 2009 Author Posted July 4, 2009 Also, the Boy Scout question could be any throughout Drum Corps history.... If there are quite a few, it'd be nice to know at lest a few other than the obvious two that are out there today. WP Quote
wesleyrp Posted July 4, 2009 Author Posted July 4, 2009 Now tha Cruncy Tenor is basically the Big Winner...... I give you mad applause but have no money for gifts(#### economy)..... I will ask for anyone that has more interesting trivia questions pertaining to Drum Corps History, go ahead and put 'em on here.... Let's get more as I know there's a ton out there that could be asked...... WP Quote

WP The earliest American Legion National championship recorded was in 1921, and the General George Custer post won. The VFW National championship goes back to 1928, and the Lansing Post won that. A lot of the national competitions like Dream (1949), and Eastern States and GSC go back to the 50's. But it looks like American Legion is the Granddaddy.
