  1. Some voters love to be with winners. Look at the Harry Potter Alliance - they are running away with 1st prize yet they still get a ton of votes. BAC just started a push a couple of days ago and sailed past many corps. These smaller corps don't have enough history or numbers to even make a dent. It's too bad. I cast my BAC votes and voted the rest for corps that need to more than others.
  2. It looks like BAC and MCL got a good push today but no love for the Sun Devils ??? SUN DEVILS (DCI/DCA) - 237th place Sun Devils Vote Link This is a 3rd year corps that is making headway but needs money to buy some brass. They currently borrow the brass now.
  3. Don't forget the Little DCA corps !!! Especially the ones that are just on the bubble - they need the money the most !!! Some don't have the web presence of the bigger corps. SUN DEVILS (DCI/DCA) - 237th place Sun Devils Vote Link Steer your vote and gift vote where it will count It looks like MCL got the bump up today from 197 to 147 but now Sun Devils needs a push.
  4. Don't forget the Little DCA corps !!! Especially the ones that are just on the bubble - they need the money the most !!! Some don't have the web presence of the bigger corps. The top 150 should make it but all the corps from 151-250 need the votes the most............... 6. Can I get a hardship scholarship? I'm living under a bridge near Fenway Park but I think I can stowaway in a Greyhound bus luggage compartment and be there in 4-5 days? When and where is the "Open House"? I hope you have a port-a-johnny. I'll bring the TP. I can bring some slightly warm Walmart "Gift" cards for payment if you cannot help out a deserving drum corps auditioneer.
  7. I have it on good authority that Capt. Castile may have "snuck-in" the stadium, hence making him ineligible for the 50/50 prize. A redraw may be in order unless MC has already purchased many rounds for his bud's at his local establishment.
  8. In Class A I'm lost on Carolina Gold. Haven't read any reviews but they scored pretty well against the others. anybody have any info on them? - they are running under the DCP radar............
  9. Is the North ready for the youth movement? I like Alliance a lot. Percussion was crazy clean. Last year I thought they were an indoor show with some brass and color guard thrown in. This year they are the full package. Not a top 5 corps for sure but I bet 8 or better. DCA South - Sun Devils also have low avg. about 18-19 my guess. Coincidence that Alliance and Sun Devils share the same hotel ? The South has some very good competitive HS bands/competition circuits and hopefully all the DCA-South corps will get a bump up in score.
  10. Class A will be a real dogfight... especially 4-7 position and maybe even 3-7. (3-7) may be a 2 point spread and or (1-3) position may be a 2 pointer. (1-7) I think will be only 5 points max. Re-leveling from the Reading show and the South/Minn. factor. My guesstimate: 1 Grenadiers 82 2 Govenaires 81.5 3 Fusion Core 80.5 4 Carolina Gold 79. 5 Sun Devils 78.5 6 Vigilantes 78.2 7 White Sabers 77.8 8 Sunrisers 74 9 Lakeshoremen 71.5 10 Shenandoah Sound 68.1 11 Excelsior 68
  11. 1) BAC chicks were every hot - to repeat an earlier post !!!! ( I heard they had to tone it down coming into finals ). 2) I fell asleep during PR show 3) Teal Sound should go back to Teal uni's and don't be CC Lite 4) Citrus Bowl needs a roof 5) Should add a rule that limits how much money it costs to march 6) BAC chicks were very hot 7) Add a Super corps class so that the top 6 can fight with each other and the make World a 128 member division. 8) Bring back marching tymps 9) Bring back Div 3 so that new corps will have a chance 10) BAC Chicks were very hot ( I'm biased)
  12. Not to leave Class A out: 1 Grenadiers 2 Govenaires 3 Fusion Core 4 Carolina Gold 5 Vigilantes 6 Sun Devils 7 White Sabers 8 Sunrisers 9 Lakeshoremen 10 Excelsior 11 Shenandoah Sound I think 4 & 5 may be a real battle. 1 pt may be the total seperation within 4 corps. I've seen Sun Devils and they could be a real wild card. last show should have 70-72.
  13. I would put Minn. shows in that list (wink-wink).

  16. So is there a list of rehearsal sites or is it secret squirrel stuff?
  17. I hear ya. Does anyone have a ranking list from last year 2008 and prelim comparison? The south corps do seem to be at a disadvantage come prelims with seeding.
  18. Opinions.....I love em. Either you get to hide behind a username/id (like me) or let it all hang out like tymps. We can do PC reviews or tell it like it is I guess. I lean more towards honest stuff even though it may hurt somebodies feelings. We could just say Corps A was good, Corps B was great, and Corps C was off the charts. (never say anything negative ...) My opinion having seen both South shows is still the same. CV has a safe show with little room for improvement. MCL is very entertaining and I also like the "Clowns" rendition. Alliance has the most exciting show with a smoking clean drumline and some more room for improvement/technique. maybe Alliance needs soloists? I don't know if that is a DCA requirement. (seems to be). I was surprised to see Alliance with a much larger brass section this year. also is anyone talking about Class A corps at all? not a factor? I'm having a hard time figuring out why south scores are low and north scores are off the charts. If we had 2 more weeks the north could hit 105 and the south may get above 85. I know its only relative until all corps are on the same field but it can either be depressing for a south corps or give false hopes to a north corps. Note: I don't know what the first poll "thread" is about - if someone can explain
  19. Un-Educated Hot Dog Chomper Review: Only saw the 3 Open Class Corps after Intermission as I got there late. Alliance Much larger corps than last year in Class A that has young energetic members. Very large Percussion section which includes 6 marching bass, 4 cymbals and very large front ensemble. Brass and guard is very improved from last year. DCI - Open Class style drill. Lots of movement and exciting energy. I was expecting to see a good show with a lot of dirt but saw a great, pretty clean show. They do have room for technical improvement and should pass MCL and CV legitmately at some point this year. Big WOW from this corps and no matter where they finish they are very impressive. Corps-Vets Very big difference in style of show compared to Alliance. Clean show with very good Guard work. Strong high brass section with excellent soloists that nailed all impact points. 2nd time seeing them, 1st time at DCI Valdosta. I see little change since that DCI show. I was impressed on cleanliness of the show back then but design leaves little room for improvement IMHO. Still they are a force to reckon with and were very entertaining. Music City Legend Wow...Tonights hosts were fantastic. Improved corps from last year. Strong brass section ( as usual ). Nice percussion book with some cleaning needed. I liked the comical monents with the nurse and patient. Send in the Clowns was a nice ballad and unlike the SCV version. The sop and contra soloists were excellent and nice addition. In your face MCL closer on the sidelines. I put this corps close to CV in scoring with a bump for home field advantage. Heres hoping they make finals this year. A friend commented that it looked like an Empire Statesmen show with different uni's. I take that as a good opinion. Like Alliance they have room to improve. Hot Dog Chomper Review: 1) Alliance 2) MCL (-2) 3) CV (-2.5) Sun Devils were very good in the parking lot jam and sorry I missed them and the other Class A corps on the field. Music book was very good and had over 50 members. Maybe I can catch them and S-Sound at Rockmart next show. Ps: I am usually against electronics but I can see the need for it to amplify the front ensemble. It seems to be a waste to have corps haul all this stuff and not really be heard (except Alliance because they had a massive pit). It would help the entertainment value for all pit instruments to be heard with limitations as to how much amplification ($$$).
  20. Nice....... like 68 BAC with the marching bells + penalty. The Citations (OC) run DCA Mission drums show. Some OC corps could actually sponsor a DCA show and get to perform at it. The Citations are a good model of keeping costs down and limit travel. I really like the idea of OC corps coming to DCA but we all know it would have to be on DCA terms. I would wave the 12 month rule if a OC corps decided in Dec. to go DCA. Heck, that 12 month rule needs an overhaul anyway as it dates back 20+ years. DCA is evolving anyway to a younger corps base. As they say in racin' "Run what ya Brung". DCI is just sucking the life out of any OC and bottom feeder WC corps anyway so that it can have the 150 member Super Corps with all the performance gadgets and $$$$. It would make evolutionary and survival sense to switch to DCA. The only big problem I see is the Labor Day finals and schools.
  21. I'm coming back to Fla!!! from Bahston.... Too cold. I want to chk out the line .
  22. I think I was just asking if this was a rule, how it is enforced etc. What if someone was in a smaller open class corps in 07 didn't pay all and then went on to world class 08 . Does the World Class ask if you are paid up from 07 ? What if it slips by and come mid june at a show the opne class director says - Hey that guy owes us $$$$. What do they do ? I think it's pretty obvious what the right thing to do is.
