  1. iHonk T-Shirts. Available at the Spirit souvie booth or online store soon (http://www.soaaa.org). [/ plug] :-)
  2. I remember at the first show of the season (Annapolis), Crown, Bluecoats, and Spirit were all on the same side for the performance of the Star Spangled Banner for the National Anthem Project by MENC. We all goggled at each other's new uniforms, and I'm willing to bet some audience members could not identify the corps.
  3. w/Stp: But I'm not about to jump ship to go there any time soon :)
  4. You should be able to audition with the French horn mouthpiece + adapter. Most corps do not worry about what mouthpiece you play until the hornline is set. Good luck!
  5. I've been looking for a few hours to find this thread now that I'm home. It was mentioned to me when we were in Powder Springs, GA. haha... I know I'm bumping something that hasn't been posted in since June, but I wanted to say thank you very much to the people who responded. I still have to write the last installment detailing the last 2 1/2 weeks of tour. I decided sleeping on the bus or filling my water jug during breaks was more important to me than spending an hour or two writing a lot of different things that happened. Sorry for being a slacker :( Also, thank you times a million to one of my best friends for putting up with my late night phone calls and sometimes wandering train of thought to get this stuff published!
  6. Can I order this along side my backwards plume?
  7. If you're really serious about it, I think having some sort of business degree might at least help. I've vaguely contemplated this before after attending a colloquium about FSU's Arts Administration degree that is specifically offered by the College of Music. http://music.fsu.edu/arts-administration.htm You can enter it with any undergrad music degree, as far as I know. The people that I spoke to have degrees in music performance, education, and therapy. It's just something you can put on the back burner for a while because you and I have many years ahead of us.
  8. Front of the bus not only sucks... it smells!
  9. She's more than welcome to start a thread on the Sponsorship Board.
  10. My parents subscribed last summer without me knowing since they couldn't make it to any shows. It looks like they will be doing the same this year. They purchased the three month subscription, and I got to reap some of the benefits when I got home from tour.
  11. I don't know if they're necessarily solis, but in Bluecoats '05 there was a walking bass line that the contras had that stands out in my mind. Also, in Bluecoats '06 the first few lines of the intro to the show I think the contras had a neat legato-type part.
  12. ^ I'm that person at FSU along with a couple other people that post here. Unfortunately a semester is NOT enough time to pull something like this off. If anyone would like the details of what we did, PM me. I'm starting fresh and new next semester because now I know what I'm doing. We have the interest and talent. We need the faculty support and performance venue!
  13. That reminds me of one of my favorite laundry days. I got my laundry done early and spent $20 on a pedicure. Best money I spent all summer, haha.
  14. You will in Spirit. You have to wear a shirt at meal times. I don't like the idea of sweaty, smelly shirt being worn more than once per laundry day period.
  15. Last summer I restricted myself to $300 because that was what I had saved up out of my own pocket. I couldn't spend anymore than that. I ended up using it all because of those days were you might lose something like your shower bag (did, in fact, happen last summer). I had to spend around $40 to replace that on a Walmart run. I also like normal food on free days and sometimes at show sites where I know some good places are nearby (San Antonio!). I think I also spend a little under $50 on corps merchandise each year. If you don't like to buy some souvenirs/extra food like I do, you can get away with less than what I brought.
  16. I went to a mall yesterday, and the Brookstone had signs on the massage chairs that said, "See assistant for demonstration." :(
  17. I've only marched two years (going on my third)... I have a few more years to go before I'll know what the heck I'm doing. Somehow, I ended up doing a very similar tour with two different corps. Thus, I knew my way around more the second time to the same places.
  18. Somewhere in the middle of cornfields at a K-12 school in Illinois, 2005 = My choice for BOX 1. Let's recap: - The guy's showers were being repared - The normal girl's showers were being repared as well - The special other guy's locker room showers weren't working - This left TWO shower heads for staff, members, and volunteers - No water pressure! - I don't remember if it was hot or cold... I think cold
  19. Which is also the reason why I've never brought a watch on tour. I don't have a huge temptation to know what time it is. During EPL and breaks, I just go off my cell phone.
  20. - Go to Bill Miller's BBQ in San Antonio, TX - Make sure you point your horn to the real 50 yard line in Ft. Edward, NY - Don't cry when you're housed at Kaplan HS in Louisiana - Texas is not as bad as people make it out to be - Louisiana and parts of Mississippi are worse - Only push your seat on the bus back if the person behind you says you can - TURN YOUR CELL PHONE ON SILENT DURING FLOOR TIME... unless you're on field lining crew or something... please - Do your tour job on time so you don't hold up the corps when leaving a housing site - The people in Bristol, RI are the coolest drunks you will ever meet - You can eat other corps' food after the Wakefield, MA parade - Watch the fireworks show at the same said location - Appreciate food places within walking distance of show sites and housing sites, but make sure you get back to the bus on time - Get some funnel cake at Allentown - Plan accordingly, and you can actually have some free time during eat, pack, and load - Febreeze is your friend, and everyone who doesn't have any themselves will ask to borrow yours - Practice show music if you can after shows... it'll pay off - Tall grass sucks, but push through it anyways - Do a shin stretch everyday to help prevent shin splints - Don't bring a watch to rehearsal unless it's absolutely necessary - Never ask what time it is during rehearsal!!! - If you do, find a creative watch to describe it... "It's 2 sets past page 30..." ;-) That's about all I can think of off the top of my head.
