  1. What exactly happened to the Cadets in 2000? Obviously their finals performance was not as strong as their semifinals performance. That was such a great show though...what can that really be attributed to?
  2. YES. Holy crap. Sooo underrated. That mello solo is like pure honey...ahhh...
  3. Dear George Hopkins, Read this man's review of the corps. Now read it again. And again. Once more. Thank you. Now start picking the musical selections for the 2007 program. Good luck Cadets in '07! Take it home! What's that? A third edition of "the Zone"? Incorporating elements from other activities such as rock and roll, choir, and theater while diminishing whatever part of the show is still part of the drum and bugle corps activity and banishing it to the background? Performing a show that is purposefully completely disconnected from the audience? I guess I should start planning my ultra hot dog now...and it'll need to be a foot-long one, too, based on how long it'll take to get all the props on and off the field.
  4. Right, because when the Cadets did in '89 it was SUCH a gimmick... <**>
  5. Cadets have one for nearly half their show...but it isn't close to what I would call being "good."
  6. But that BANG-BANG-BANG percussion part going on during it is distracting. But for the most part, this show is amazing. It's just so...poignant. Way underrated, along with 1986. Why don't these shows get any credit?
  7. Wow! Much improved. Brass sound is AMAZING. What a blend they have. Everyone's nailing those fast parts! Loved all the stuff they added in, like the screams and hellish effects after the ballad. Usually when a corps adds something extra in they make the show worse *cough*Cadets*cough*...not Phantom! :)
  8. Is the newest Phantom Regiment APD much improved performance-wise over the other one? I would buy it...but all of those $1.99's add up when the credit card bill comes...and I think my job at Sylvan Learning Center is coming to an end very soon. :(
  9. "Disaster" is an understatement. Catastrophe. Tragedy. Cataclysm. Debacle. That's more like it. I could go on...
  10. I still remember when I was in band (Dave was our marching tech) wondering why, when Dave mentioned the "gahd" (the guard), he was bringing religion into the issue.
  11. "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again." The part you "sang" in your post goes down as the greatest crescendo in the history of DCI. It's REALLY sad that I knew the exact musical phrase you were talking about within seconds of reading your post. What is wrong with me..
  12. Welcome all. So...any DCPers going to the show who will report scores as soon as they hear them?

  14. Shame there's a small chance of them breaking into the top three, because if any show (beside's Phantom's) deserves to win at finals, it's this one! Remember everything about last year? The immature arrangements, the design flaws, the lack of a ballad, the lack of originality, the lack of innovation, the poor visual program...take the complete opposite of all of those and that's their show this year. If I can get shivers from watching this shoddily made, poor sound quality video, they're doing something right. This is the 1999-2003 Vanguard we all know and love...this show pretty much takes the best parts of 1999, 2000, and 2003 and combines them into one #### of a product. The visual program is classic Vanguard, even throwing in a few signature moves from what I could tell. The music? Amazing. Can't go into much detail after seeing one recording, but this is their best offering since 2000, even better than 2004 in my opinion. I should really stop making a topic each time I see a corps show for the first time and know it will be great...but I coldn't resist, and Vanguard isn't exactly the most talked about right now on these forums. Oh, the Vangard yell is in there too...can't wait to yell it at finals.
  15. No, not that my band was playing it better, at all. The ability of the Madison Scouts is lightyears ahead of any high school band in the country. There were clear intonation and other issues in that clip, I was just offering an arrangement closer to the original to show that Scouts could be doing so much more with this piece than they are now. Their arrangment makes it much less melodic and musical...and that's never good.
  16. Whoa there, I was just giving you guys a recording of an arrangement truer to the original piece...chill out.
  17. I just used NoteAbilityPro for the Mac, used Shift-Command-4 to save an area of the screen as an image, hit a few keys to upload it to Flickr, and copied the URL. Took but a few minutes! The last one is Cadets 1999. Amazing show!
  18. Wow, I liked that! They just need to clean it up a bit, from what I can hear members of the pit are accidentally talking into microphones during the second movement...very distracting. But once they get all of that taken care of and the radio selections just flow into one another without talking in between it'll be GREAT! Can't wait to see this show in Atlanta next month! All kidding aside, this is the most taseful use of amps I've heard...ever. It's definitely the least cheesy (cheese is bad) that's been used to date, and frankly, it worked quite well! It works during the live performance, but will it stand the test of time and become a classic? Frankly...this is the only amped vocal show I can see doing so. This actually might make me change my views...slightly. I do think that they could have done this section perfectly without any use of vocals, they'd have to get creative and try new things with the instruments, but they could do it. But hey, it does add something something different to the show, and it makes the section FUN! It works very well for the Crossmen and their identity. Yes, I'd prefer that it not be included, but not that strongly. Keep them in, take them out, it's the same to me. I like them! Maybe I'll have to rethink my views on the Cadets...NOT. Their vocals are terrible. Serious, classy, musical show for 2007, please. I'm waiting. What did I just post...
  19. Note: he is also the person who throws the soprano 15 feet in the air and catches it in the Cadets 1990 show. How he did that each time is beyond me...
