arlene was a fantastic woman. over the past couple seasons, i had the chance to interact with her quite a bit. she was a great person and it is a very sad day at the GLASSMEN to see her go. she will be greatly missed.

glassmen. i also like that "send in the clowns" was very tastefully woven into "watermark". very nice.

i'm excited to hear the musicality and authenticity they piano's sound will bring to the production.

I can say that when I was on the field, one of the most irritating things was watching the people fall behind not because they weren't talented, but because they chose not to get in shape before tour. This goes for skinny and fat people alike. Drum corps is a very demanding activity on the body, specifically the joints. If you have not been training and strengthening your muscles surrounding those joints, you will be in a lot of pain and possibly get injured. And I will say that those of us who took the time to get into shape in the off season like the staff said to starting in...oh i don't know.....November, it is very irritating to see that. I also think there is a difference in being fat and being out of shape. I have marched with fat guys who can 100% hold their own on the field and keep up with everyone else, they just happen to be fat. Now, these guys were also "in shape" during the winter camps, and the visual staff could see this during the "demanding" visual blocks and physical training sessions we held at camps. If you are a big guy or girl and can play your butt off, that's great. But, you better come into those first camps in some sort of physical shape and able to get through vis block. The staff NEVER believe what you are "going to do to get skinny" because clearly you haven't done that already. Also, some uniforms are designed where just about anybody of any size can look good wearing it. Others....not so much. If you are going to look like a mess in the uniform, they're probably not going to put you in one. That uniform represents a lot more than just you wearing it, and they aren't going to let one person ruin that look just because he or she can play really well...

The GLASSMEN website didn't mention anything about any of the caption heads, only the design team. Joe Hieniger is the GLASSMEN's Color guard designer, Tim is just the caption head. The brass and visual caption heads weren't mentioned either. The only caption head who is also a designer is Rob Ferguson.

Honestly, you just have to be smart and take note of your surroundings. If you are at a school and nobody is there...you'll probably be fine. If there are students there for summer school, workers waxing floors, janitors, teachers, ect..., you want to be a bit smarter. When people leave 3 power strips full of iPods and cell phones, how easy is it just to unplug it and walk away with hundreds of dollars of sellable stuff???? If you are in a bad area as well, people may wander into the sleeping area if the gym doors are left open...it has happened to my drum corps before. Just keep your eyes open. Don't be one of those people who forgets that the "real world" still happens while we're doing drum corps and sometimes those two worlds collide. also don't be that guy who was just "too tired" getting off the bus to take a second and look around. be smart.

Chotch. Also known as chaffing. Bus food Magic time- i think every corps has a different name for this time. The time that all of your bags have to be out by the bus and out of the sleeping area. FIGURE IT OUT! rookie talent "_____" head. Ex. Free day head, laundry day head... is it summer yet??

I am sooooo excited for the GLASSMEN's 2008 program!!!!! I can not wait to see where they go with this show, there are so many possibilities. I had the opportunity to sit in at a rehearsal at the end of on of their camp and they are indeed going to be fantastic. The music is absolutely great, love it!!! Go GGGGGGGGGGGGGG!

I was just watching an old video of 1983 Suncoast Sound on the DCI FanNetwork. I heard the starting gun in the beginning of the show. When did they stop using the starting gun? Did it go along/away with the tick system? Just wondering.

ummmm, it's just slow technique. If you watch a lot of corps they use it during ballad when toe up technique would look a little dumb. goes along well with the whole "straight leg" thing. just sayin.

Robert Smith and Frank Williams were in front of that hornline. Both are AMAZING teachers still to this day.

ummmmmmm, no you haven't. i'm pretty sure that i've NEVER seen that happen in the locker room. as everyone who has done drum corps, or has been in any kind of community shower knows, nudity looses ALL novelty.......even for gay men. in drum corps especially, most of the time, you have very limited time to shower. get in, shower, get out. if you are so ignorant that you assume that gay people check out the other guys in the locker room and are always thinking of sex...then i guess go ahead and think that. also, i'm not sure if you've actually looked around your drum corps, but a lot of guys aint that cute....just sayin. also, i'm pretty sure that segregation ended in the 1960's. so not allowing gays to shower with straight guys.....you might wanna rethink that one there dude. just sayin.

the glassmen office was in g-west for a while, but has been in downtown toledo for the past couple years and has now moved to maumee. g-west is said to be haunted and there are some creepy stories from there that i've heard. as far as predicting outcomes that are going to happen in august... it can be fun, but it's all about opinions and which coprs that person favors. aaaaanyway, i'm really excited to see how both corps do, but have my prefs just like everyone else.

DCI has quite a large gay community. the great thing is that nobody cares, everyone is there to perform at the best of his/her abilities and that is awesome. just go out to the busses after a show, you'll see. hahaha.

i'm glad that we dont' have to do retreat. i started in 05, so i've never done it. it gives the corps time for INDIVIDUAL practice. this is something that there is very little time available for on the road, even during a full rehearsal day. it is nice to be able to go stand outside the trucks after the show for a while and work on a part that is a problem for you personally. also too, if the staff decides to, they can run sectionals of the entire hornline, drumline, or guard, individual sections(baritones, trumpets, rifles...), or work one on one with a member. we did it a couple times for the hornline while our arranger was on tour with us. it was very helpful. if we had to do a retreat, there would be much less time in order to get in and out of uniform. also, that time between the performance and scores is used to feed the corps snack or dinner, take care of uniform issues, and time for the members to visit family if they are at the show. it is very nice on tour to go back in and sit with your mom to watch the show. it is mostly the fans who want retreat back, and while it is an entertaining, it is much more benficial to the members to not do a retreat. whoever said that the corps are not using the extra time is obviously not a member and is only a fan. no, corps are not running full ensemle rehearsals, but you don't have to have the entire corps together in order for rehearsal time.

last year, texas. idk where, dallas maybe? rehearsal on a brand new astrotuf field. the little rubber bits had not sunken into the tuf yet. they were everywhere. there was a heat advisory out for that day telling people not to go outside. it was between 120-130 on the field. oh boy. thank god there wasn't a ton of humidity. that day was hot. didn't suck as much as florida though. i hate orlando. tooooo humid.
