  1. Oh, come on. Half the fun is parking in that great residential area behind the stadium. Great houses back there. But make sure you are paying attention. Trying to find your way back in the dark on those hilly, curvy streets can be a challenge!
  2. I think it might be easier for corps to get permission to arrange. It's harder for bands because Hal Leonard(I think it is them?) has an arrangement for marching band and that is the only arrangement the Orff family will allow on the field for marching bands. And not a lot of BOA bands use stock arrangements.
  3. On a High school field, divided in thirds with 53'4" between sidelines and hashes AND between the hashes, we use 28 steps. It's really 28.44444 steps between the hashes but we round off. So there are actually 85 and 1/3 steps from sideline to sideline, not the typical 84 steps most groups use. On an NCAA field, there are exactly 32 steps (60 feet) between the hashes and the sideline. It's 40 feet between the hashes. That's 21.3 steps. Some groups use 20 "adjusted" or larger steps and others just use 21 steps. The thought being that the extra 4 inches divided out over the 21 steps is minimal.
  4. More good news. I know my aunt who lives near Petosky/Harbor Springs MI would LOVE to have a corps and a show back in that neck of the woods. Welcome back!
  5. Yeah for increasing the concentration of corps in the midwest! Canos, Scouts, Colts, Blue Stars, Cap Sound, Pioneer, Cavaliers, and Phantom. Throw in the DCA corps and that's quite the lineup from a pretty small area. Welcome back!
  6. Last night's "come in" was good, but we can do better. Let's hear your ideas...
  7. I just got off the phone with DCI, since I need to know how long I'm going to need the babysitter next Thursday! They will be showing the top 17 corps. So at 17 minute intervals, with lets say two intermissions, thats right around 5 and half hours.
  8. This cracks me up. You'd think they would have 1) learned the gate dimensions of their major shows and then designed the props for the smallest opening, and 2) built a prototype of the prop in the winter to get the kinks worked out of the system. I can't imagine the amount of time and money they have spent on this. It's a great idea and it does add to the show and it can work. I wish them the best of luck.
  9. I believe it was the U.S. Department of Transportation that was running the site inspection. Inspections took place in the parking lot of the school. And since they found so many violations last year, it's only natural they would inspect the same event this year. Also, I don't think corps will refuse to come to this show. What are they going to tell DCI? "We're not doing the Stillwatter show this year because we got busted for breaking the law there last year!" I don't think that would fly with DCI. And yes, Stillwater is one of those legacy shows. I just wish it was like the way it used to be - even up to 1999 or 2000 there were two shows, two nights in a row in late July with two very strong and different lineups.
