  1. Assuming you've even been to the Rose Bowl, people like you who are #####ing about it will be begging for the Rose Bowl after the 3rd or 4th year in Indianapolis.
  2. I think it would be awesome for an Alumni corps to perform at DCI every year in exhibition. However, as for me, it's gonna be a one time thing. I'm not 18 anymore and have a family & career to focus my attention on.
  3. I don't know one person in the Anaheim Kingsmen Alumni corps that has said "This is going to revolutionize drum corps." I would guess the same for Madison and 27th. Perhaps FANS of "old style" drum corps think, say, or hope that but it isn't realistic to think ONE performance will change anything that currently goes on with Junior Drum Corps. We're not that powerful..............................................................but it would be nice, admittedly, since you brought it up.
  4. I understand two things; 1. DCI finals weekend is, and should always be, about the current/active junior drum corps and it's marching members. It's their show. 2. DCI would do just fine without any alumni corps marching & I consider myself fortunate they are letting us relive our youth even for just one night. So, I guess I'm agreeing with you except I still see 10 years in Indy as a downside.
  5. My congratulations to the Madison Alumni, you guys did a fantastic job and really set the bar for alumni corps!!!! Now it's our turn. Greg, Anaheim Kingsmen
  6. It will discourage performances of alumni corps at D.C.I. 2-7 alumni did their gig in Boston, Madison alumni in Madison and the Anaheim Kingsmen will do theirs (ours) in Pasadena next summer. After that, I suppose Star could do one if they wished in 08 but after that..................... It's a little easier to do an alumni corps performance if DCI is held in your own city. It's a major deterrent to have to travel a long distance to do so. You still could, of course, but it is a deterrent nevertheless.
  7. This is California so NOTHING is within walking distance. Once you park on the golf course at the Rose Bowl there will be no shops, restaurants, bars, etc. to walk to unless you get into your car and drive to them. However, old-Town Pasadena is filled with everything I just mentioned and it's a very short drive. It's the place everybody hangs out during the time of the Rose Bowl football game. Also, you don't have to stay in Pasadena. There is a mass transit rail line (Gold Line), which originates from downtown Los Angeles into Pasadena. Pros & Cons of Rosebowl Pro - It's a beautiful stadium, and so is the surrounding neighborhood, with gorgeous views of the mountains. Pro - The Anaheim Kingsmen will perform Pro - The "sight lines" aren't that bad Pro - There is a plaque outside the entrance, which shows each college football team that has played in the Rose Bowl game. Count how many times USC has been in it (hint: 29 times). Pro - TONS of places to tailgate and for corps to practice. Pro - DCI no longer has to feel guilty for NEVER having a championship in California despite California corps winning the title 17 (18 times?) out of 32. Con - UCLA (aka UGLY) plays their form of football there, but they should be able to have the place fumigated by August & they NEVER play a game there on January 1st.
  8. I'm interested in one of the 3-valve G baritones. I need one for the Anaheim Kingsmen reunion show at DCI in 07. Are they in decent shape. I looked on your website but didn't see anything (pictures). Thanks,
  9. ....is it because they're a bunch of talented 18 to 21 year olds kids giving their all for the sake of the activity of drum corps?
  10. That really sucks. Ten years is a loooong time to commit to one city, especially a city like Indiana. I like it better when DCI moves around.
  11. Although I dislike what drum corps has evolved to, the kids today work just as hard as we did and appear to be having just as much fun. That's all that counts in my book.
  12. The Anaheim Kingsmen rifle line curtsied at the end of the show in 1974, does that count?
  13. For the first time in its 34-year history, DCI will be held on the west coast and people are complaining about it. Did anybody have any sympathy for all of the California corps that have had to travel to the mid-west and east coast for DCI all these years? California, finally, gets one bone thrown to it and now people want a permanent-"central location". Doesn't seem fair, especially considering California has produced, what, something like 18 DCI champions between the Blue Devils, SCV and Kingsmen? How about a few more years of DCI west of Colorado, then we'll talk.
  14. The Rose Bowl is a horrible-stinky place during the fall because UCLA (a.k.a. the bRUINS) play their effeminate form of college football there. However, don't worry; DCI has plans to totally clean the place up by wiping down the seats with bleach and other cleansers to remove the rank bRUIN odor. Other than that, the Rose Bowl has a spectacular view of the San Gabriel Mountains & if the NFL does come back to So. Cal it won't affect DCI 07. The seats in the middle are individual, but out towards the 20 or 30 yard line they are benches and not very comfortable. At the southern entrance, it lists all of the Rose Bowl games and the scores. Count how many times USC has been there (29) and beat some hapless team from the Big 10. FIGHT ON!
  15. We = The faction who marched drum corps in the 60's, 70's whom believe woodwinds, amps and singing belong in marching bands, not drum corps. And I never claimed everybody holds my opinion.........but, I believe you already knew that. Also, I don't care "the rules" allow singing & amps. It still does not belong.
  16. The Anaheim Kingsmen warm-up chorale from the Walnut California Show, June 24th, 2006. It is awesome!
  17. I appreciate the sincerity of your post but not your hypocrisy. You’re telling everybody to stop bashing the changes, which have occurred in Drum Corps yet you say; “It is no longer" Drum and bugle corps : Tradition, history, repetitivness" In other words, YOU can have an opinion but we can’t. We’re entitled to our opinion as much as you. We marched before you were born and put in as much blood, sweat and tears as the kids that march today. We built the activity you enjoy today and we don’t like amps, singing, or woodwind instruments. Deal with it. Greg Parvin Anaheim Kingsmen
  18. The Anaheim Kingsmen Alumni Corps will have a cymbal line, big one too.
  19. You know something.................for someone approaching his 40's you should have learned by now it is low class to speak ill of the dead, especially using immature cartoon figures. You may have a different perspective on Stanley than the rest of us, but can you at least keep your mouth shut in public if you feel the need to disrespect his memory?
  20. Those are the worst color guard uniforms I've ever seen in my life. They remind me of an old "I Love Lucy" episode. However, the uniform for the rest of the corps looks great.
