Like Phantombari..I was present at Chandler/Ahwatukee (AZ). I thought the sound levels were way down for the first half, but that it improved over time during the second half. But why does an event with "Loud" in the title, have to find itself at a sound level significantly lower than most movie trailer levels we encounter as regular movie patroons. There were some visual times with purple streaks on the lower part of the screen, and I am now having trouble recalling if it was camera specific.
While I appreciate and love surround sound, it really bothered me when I was getting [example] a soprano (yes, I am old school) sound coming out of the back right speaker, but all performers were well in front of us.
My biggest gripe was the low level on the narrative. Why have the guys if those levels aren't going to be adjusted. Since they are running off different channels from the field/performance mics, they took WAY too long to adjust. My suggestion is to incorporate "captioning". Being a local Academy supporter, and aside from the whisper level of sound, I wanted to hear what the guys were saying both leading into the performance and as the post show. Admittedly, there were a great number of locals cheering the group so that only added to the narrative battle. All of this was on top of the open field mics capturing the stadium sounds between corps.
But I salute the fact that the room was a near sell-out.
