  1. Yep. Oatka(pronounced O-ott-Ka) festival summer 2014
  2. Brings back memories with Memorial Day coming up. BITD it wasn't unusual for us to march a parade with the Empire State Grenadiers(to become the Interstatesmen), St. Joe's from Green Island(to become Avant Garde), any number of corps from Pittsfield like the Monarchs, Targets, Marksmen or the Boys Club Cavaliers, Continental Cadets from Cattskill, Speigleaires, Green Sabres, Hudson Falls Crusaders, Johnstown Fusiliers. Just to name a couple. Man, those were the days.
  3. Yup, the Fort Edward Vagabonds. The leaderhosen uniforms were an interim between the old satin blouse/shako unis of the 50's to the new satin blouse/gestapo hats of the 60's. Believe it or not they were well liked by the fans and the corps mebers. We even had a St. Bernard that marched with us.
  4. Very good Don. Wahcaloosencoochaleva, The Great Carrying Place or the English name, Fort Edward. Now name the corps.
  5. Two famous residents of this town were Natty Bumpo and Robert Rogers.
  6. The name of the town that the feature is from is Wahcaloosencoochaleeva.
  7. Some people thought they were bums, but just like the Dodgers they weren't that bad.
  8. That was it....what a great time.....get it???? Pun intended. I don't believe I just one-pun-upped Andy.
  9. O.K. here is the story that I started earlier about Charlie Johnson and the 1970 Dream. The night before the dream we (Rochester) marched the Waverly show. When the scores were announced, Sky had won the show and were presented the 1st place trophy. Welp, Truman went through the sheets and found a mistake, and the judges agreed there was mistake, and Baltimore should have won the show. So there is a bunch of us drinking with the drumline from NY, you know the usual suspects Ray, Wes, Rocco, and I could have sworn Andy was there but ????(hic) Truman approaches Winky and demands the trophy be turned over to Baltimore, riiiiight. So things start getting dicey, Lefty intervenes and clears the parking lot of Sky and tells everybody to get on the bus. Well there was a bunch of us that didn't want to miss this show, so we decided to tag along and go to the Dream, the next day. I think we partied that night at a Holiday Inn? in Hasbrouck Heights?? Anyhow, the Skyliners were boiled and we never went to bed. As my memory, remembers.........during the Dream, Skys hornline was in their company front playing their signature Little Old New York ending heading towards the finish line, Charlie Johnson had the A-section posted just before the finish line. Sky's hornline passes the A-section before Charlie gives the forward-march command. Hence a 1pt penalty. Here are the scores for Waverly and the Dream. And if you notice the Dream scores, there is a 1pt. difference between Hawthorne and New York. Could that be the 1pt penalty??? Of course, this could all be a dream...... 1 Yankee Rebels 77.850 2 New York Skyliners 77.600 3 Sunrisers 72.000 4 Hamburg Kingsmen 71.200 5 Rochester Crusaders 68.750 6 Les Diplomates 62.450 The Dream 1 Hawthorne Caballeros 83.300 2 New York Skyliners 82.300 3 Connecticut Hurricanes 80.100 4 Yankee Rebels 79.650 5 Reading Buccaneers 79.550
  10. I think I know who this guy is. Is there any truth to the story that he was really in the bag at the '70 or '71 Dream, and due to his condition caused a penalty, which led to Sky losing the show? We can discuss later after he is revealed.
  11. Amen Donny, he was one of the best. What a sweet, funny, talented guy. He was in that cadre, that you were a part of, that made Phoenix what it was. RIP Sugar Bear, I'll miss you.
  12. O.K. not to belabor this feature....but I will.... my understanding was, Butch was with Syracuse, wanted to be the DM at NY. However, he was told that spot was pencilled-in for Jimmy Russo who was about to age-out of Lucy's....deep breath. Butch stayed with Brigs. ..'nuther deep breath. Jimmy decides to forego the Big Red, and instead stays in Jersey with the bell-bottom brigade. Bingo, Butchie to NY, the rest is history.......
  13. Ya know, I got to tell you I go waaaay back with Butch. The Schylerville Green Sabres/Vagabond/Interstatesmen days. And I don't remember Butch as a fighter. He had a hot-temper, was intense, and always had a bunch of guys around him who would fight, and those of you who know the corps that Butch marched with know who I mean. But I'm having a hard time remembering Butch, having a one on one dustup....???
  14. Hey-zeus chispies Mike tell me it ain't so. You've gone to the "dark" side....what the h*ll is a tuba????? You ARE and always will be a Contra player......BTW, my heartfelt congratulations on a well deserved victory.
  15. Wendy? Darling? Light, of my life. I'm not gonna hurt ya. You didn't let me finish my sentence. I said, I'm not gonna hurt ya. I'm just going to bash your brains in. Lisko it's your fault you used Nickel and Son in the same sentence.....

  17. I don't know his name, but he has hands like Lucca Brazzi.
  18. Guys, read my post again. I didn't say anywhere in my statements anything about "Kodak" the company being healthy, or a major player in the future. Nor did I mention anything about "film" or "film manufacturing". I did cite Eastman Business Park (the former Kodak Park) And Don you are spot-on I am a Western New York homer, and I wear that mantle proudly. Rae (my wife) and I during our working careers, had the good fortune of working in just about every major city in the US. And we enjoyed many places that we lived. But we chose to come back here to retire after spending 10 gawd-awful years in Florida. So I would say to each his own. I'd rather sit through some months of what some people consider lousy weather (where I can jump on a plane and fly to someplace really nice like Italy or Spain) rather than sit through one more g-###### hurricane. And oh BTW, you can keep the bugs, snakes, friggin' alligators, red-necks, crime, traffic, tourists, heat and humidity. But getting back to drum corps. The mini, alumni, and reunion corps movement is alive and well here in WNYS. And it's the kind of drum corps I appreciate and like. So I'm not really missing anything. I can still go see live performances, get together with folks who share my views of the artform, have some adult beverages, share war-stories of the good old times and reminisce about our younger days. Life is good in WNYS.
  19. Hmmmm??? Interesting, Kodak Park an empty parking lot??? Over two dozen companies. Over 6000 jobs, the state has agreed to invest multiple millions into expanding the businesses and you call it an empty parking lot???.....Just sayin'????? http://eastmanbusinesspark.com/ http://eastmanbusinesspark.com/news/82/Kodak_and_New_York_State_Propose_Partnership_to_Drive_Sustainable_Growth_at_Eastman_Business_Park/ http://eastmanbusinesspark.com/news/81/Natcore_Technology_Receives_%24500K_Jobs_Tax_Credit_from_NY_State/
