  1. Symphony No. 1: The Lord of the Rings - Meij Nothing like the original symphony B) Spartacus nuff said B) Light and Shadow...or something like that Had this idea while thinking of possibilities of marching with different uniforms. Horns wear white unis, guard wears black unis. (contrast between bright and happy, and dark and dissonant) Music: Some combination of - New World Symphony, Danzaa Finale, and Death Hunt. I have ideas for an ending that includes the use of the exit tunnel...and then coming back out of it B)
  2. DIVISION I 1 Madison Scouts 90.250 2 Carolina Crown 88.300 3 Colts 84.350 4 Southwind 81.500 5 Pacific Crest 79.700 6 Esperanza 76.250 DIVISION II 1 Blue Stars 84.900 ... :( I'm all for BLOO passing them up, but you've gotta wonder what the heck is going on...
  3. heh. If there was a "right time...their turn to win" thing goin on, SCV would've won last year, Phantom the year before, and Coats this year. And Madison would have WAAAY more than 2 championships B) (...VK as well)
  4. I know...it kinda bums me too The Coats are lookin pretty good, I'm not sure, but they might have passed Madison with that score.
  5. If anything, it's a 24 horse race with three or four of in a photo phinish. Come Finals week, it's not uncommon to see surprises. :) As VK said, it's not over until the fat lady sings...and gets eaten
  6. That's cool. B) I suppose it's the counterpart of the other 3digit repeating number that symbolizes the anti-christ I wonder what 222 means...
  7. I'm hopin Impulse will bring it up to Div 1, we definately need a corps like them. (I just thought of something...what if Blue Devils B or Vanguard Cadets...etc moved up to Div 1? That'd be kinda weird eh?) (they probably wouldn't allow it, but it'd still be kinda cool to compete against 'yourself' )
  8. Allright, I finished it... After reading my own work, I have to say I sound like a 10 year old at his first X-Games...but eh, it was still an awesome show. I seriously thought G-men's drums were smaller than normal ones, maybe my eyes are just decieving me. My bad
  9. HEY!!! Okay, now that I've got your attention :P I think it's because the Cavaliers have their stuff posted up on their website when they win. Usually, and I'm not entirely sure, but I'm pretty sure if you click the "Cavaliers victorious in...yada yada" or "Blue Devils victorious in...yada yada" it has a link straight to their website. And it seems to me that the people who have a bias against the Cadets are just as bad as people who have a grudge against anyone who doesn't seem to like them. ...Okay, I just checked out the YEA! website, and my theory checks out. I don't think YEA! posts victories on their site like BD's and Cavie's sites do. ...but, I also checked out the "Cavies victorious in Murf" link, and my theory of them having a link to the Cavies site does not check out; for that particular competition anyways. (San Ant, had a link to Cavies site I believe) Personally, I think you should stop complaining, the Cadets aren't ALWAYS going to be the victim, so stop trying to protect them. They won the show...so what's it gonna take to convince you that their victory was worth while...a special headline on DCI.org? Come on dude....come on. Or it could be that Indy just wasn't as important a competition as Master's was. :P
  10. (wow...after reading this in the morning compared to when I wrote it last nigh...I sound like a 10 year old talking about how he went to the X-Games on sunday. I guess my inner child was revealed yesterday or something...Edits... ) Allright first off, this is my first live marching arts show I've seen that I haven't been performing in myself...and the first thing I noticed when KK started playing is that people can actually hear us when we play I know it sounds dumb, but after listening to recording after recording and performing ON the field in my HS MB, it always seemed like we weren't playing loud enough to be heard. again...I know it sounds dumb Next off, I have a horrible memory, so I'll probably end up confusing corps throughout this review, feel free to correct me. GETTING TO THE STADIUM! :) Okay so we get to the Pro-Football Hall of Fame stadium, because that's where the competition is right?....right?.....................####...it's somewhere in Massilon. So now it's 5:30 ish, and we still don't have tickets. There were a lot of people who were confused like us that ended up at the Pro Football HofFame instead of PBTiger stadium; so it would definately help if the show's website had a little more info about the contest. My mother asked around for directions, and we got em, but by the time she was done talking it was almost 6:00... anyways...we kinda wander around looking for signs until we luckily come upon Corps Buses! (BAC's), so we follow them until we get to the stadium, and by now it's 6:30. THE STADIUM! This stadium seats weren't exactly as high up as I wanted it to be, or as close to the middle, but I was quite happy with being able to spend less money on tickets and more on food. Our seats were near the 20 on the left side, not exactly the best, but I still saw/heard what I wanted to see/hear. There was an overhang roof that provided shade for us, so I was pretty much as content as I could be. Plus we got seats next to a cute little baby kid, and he was actually pretty responsive to the corps. Lots of "AWOOOOW! That was kooooool!!!" and things like that. !THE CORPS! First off, I have to give credit to the guards in this competition. I only saw 2 drops the whole day. KIWANIS KAVALIERS - D-line was the strong point, along with their very very talented soloists - Music from Incredibles & PPanther! - Simple drill with simple marching errors will bring your scores down I suppose - Could've used more volume in the(end of) ballad - The ending didn't really feel like an ending, corps doesn't seem to feel confident with it. All criticism aside, I was extremely pleasently surprised with KK. Being a newbie to live shows, I was expecting something REALLY horrible from the lowest ranked corps. But these guys were entertaining. They had some nice moments(loved the pink panther stuff) and their guard was very good for their size. Their soloists were very talented as well. Just get a little more confident in the ending of your ballad and your show and I'll have pretty much nothing to complain about. ...Oh yeah, your D-line is very very nice. (they played some stuff while going off the field that was cool, and their playing in the show was also pretty good too :) ) MAGIC OF ORLANDO - Full corps(at least compared with KK, I'm not sure if they're actually full) with a good sound. - ...I actually can't remember much of this show besides that I thought the music was pretty cool...but I can't remember what it sounded like....How does that happen? I know...because they were on more than 4 hours ago...my memory span can't handle that. Sorry Magic, I remember I really liked your show,...but I forgot... :sshh: Coming after KK, these guys looked like Gods(no offense to KK, but the difficulty level increase just has that effect on me). They had a really neat moment I remember where there was a guard member in the middle of a corps 'circle block', and the corps did some ripple effect movements. Very Cool. If I ever remember anything else, I'll add it on. CROSSMEN - Full corps, love the guard unis. Very Psychadelic - My memory problem haunts me... - Guard moment with double flags was AWESOME - 'Love stories' in the guard always work for shows Okay, I haven't seen Spirit or Colts, but I have to wonder how this show isn't making finals... These guys really deserve a finals spot with this show, I really really liked the whole PSYCHADELIC 'theme' with the guard. The corps' drill really helped out with the love story in some points. ...again, loss of memory G-MEN - Those shields look 3D with that kind of color...I mean, they ARE 3D, but they stick out from the uniform quite nicely. - Jazzified New World...greatest....idea.........EVER!!! - (edit) Okay, so apparently my eyes must have been decieving me. G-men were using regular size snares; my bad. The whole show was a blast for me. I was afraid the turf angels were gonna be too corny for my taste, but I thought it was really cool. The 'Jaws' part was my favorite part of the whole show...it's kinda funny, this is the type of show I'd expect from VK or Bridgemen, but here are the Glassmen of all corps doing "jazzified Dvorak" and doing it well!!! NICE!!! I'll write the rest when it's not past midnight...I'ma sleep now... (Yawn)...Okay, so I went back and made some edits so's not to make myself look like a 10 year old at his first X-Games. :) Boston Crusaders - Some very recognoizable tunes in this show, done well - I'm pretty sure this was the corps with the pinkish guard unis that reminded me of Magic 02. - The pink scarfs turned to flags was a Very Very nice effect I've heard people complain about how they're just doing arrangements of pieces other corps have done so well in the past in a "safe" way, but I could really care less. I suppose it's better if you've never heard the other arrangements, but I still think this was a very very very nice show.(I think they were the only ones other than Magic that didn't do jazzy type music) After seeing BAC 02 and hearing about BAC 04, I was afraid they weren't going to have a show I would like, but they proved me wrong! Nice job BAC! Madison Scouts - I've heard about how you can't see Carmen's entrance, but I saw her running out onto the field with her head down. Good for me! The red definately stands out very well during the entrance. - Screamers were awesome, I'm not sure if they were supposed to cut out early, but either way, that was awesome! - As bad as this might sound, I thought Phantom was louder than them tonite that might be because of my positioning on the left side 20 yard line though. Owell - The uniforms' colors mess with your head when they do pass-throughs. That just seemed to get me every time they did one. - Ending didn't feel like an ending, even though it was loud. This show seemed to fly by without giving me time to notice anything really special, it seemed to end too early. Okay, the opening really reminded me of West Side Story. The sirens sounded kinda funny at first, but once they wheeeeewed back down, they sounded normal. Carmen's entrance was very HOT! That was a nice effect. It's funny, I had told my mother they were an all male corps, so I was afraid she might think Carmen was a crossdresser ...a very HOT crossdresser. She did her role very well, and like Phantom's guy, stole most of the show. Like I said before, the uniforms make a really nice effect when they do pass-throughs, and they did that alot with their drill as well. I forget if it was the scouts...but there were a lot of corps that had cool contra features today, they might have had one of them. The ending just didn't do it for me, it was loud, but it didn't feel like an ending. I say add something fast and loud...but that's just me. PHANTOM REGIMENT - Entrance with the umbrellas was very cool...still no rain though - I believe this was the corps that had a really 'cutsie' lean in one of their songs, I liked that. - Soloist fracked twice during their solo, no biggy, still got the effect intended. - Guard guy, much like Carmen, definately stole most of the show, especially the ending. - BASS DRUMS! Yeah, I was kinda disappointed not to see anyone with rainsticks, that should catch on better by finals though. The soloist fracked twice, but I didn't really care, it was still cool. I'm pretty sure Phantom was the one that had the Contras hit the really low note. (darn my short memory...) Their D-line is definately very good this year, but I was listening to the bass drums the whole time. They are WAAAY louder than other corps' bass lines. The costume change was on the other side of the field of me, so I missed the entrance. Talk about your weird guard costumes, especially for of all corps, Phantom Regiment! This was probably the most constantly audience grabbing corps today, and they deserve it with the show they have. Everyone seems to be pulling something out of their ##### this year. BLOOCoats - It was kinda funny to hear people ask why everyone was booing Phantom Regiment when BC was lining up,...especially when this is supposed to be their home crowd. - I'm pretty sure there was a cool contra feature in this show too...there were a lot of contra features today, come to think of it. - The beat box guy sounded a lot like a japanese rapper to me...but i still didn't like it - That lick near the end of the show with the 'building block' was awesome! - And lets not forget that full guard solo! Bloo definately has a show this year! Although I wish to #### they'd get rid of the beatbox guy and just give it to the whole pit without the amps, amplified voice doesn't sound as good as non-amped voice to me. The best part of that whole show was the 'building block' at the end when each new part of the block plays a lick...and then the guard solo! WHHOOOOOOSH! Oh yeah, That ending drill reminded me alot of SCV's past moves...but the Coats performed it beautifully. Very nice job Coats! okay...that's it. I know it's not exactly Grade A material, but there ya go.
  11. And you must have not seen Phantom's show yet.
  12. Okay, so first off this was my first viewing of their show, so I could be wrong...but The ending was a long hold in basically the same set as the ending last year, and it was LOUD, not soft. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Madison has ditched the softness and gone back to POWER for the ending. Didn't help their scores, but eh, I think it would be better if they came up with a new ending that was fast and loud, the one they have right now is kind of quick and unexpected(at least for me it was).
  13. Okay, I just got back from the Massilon show, it was my first live DCI show ever...and basically the only time I've ever been in the stands for a marching arts competition, so this was new to me. First off...IT'S LOUDER AND BETTER LIVE THAN ON RECORDINGS! :) The only shows I've seen are recorded ones, so as dumb as that statement is to many of you, I was astounded A few things about the show before I post my first review in the review forum. #1 - Kiwanis Kavaliers: They might be ranked last in Div 1, but at least their show is entertaining enough to make up for it! Entertainment>Complexity (That Pink Panther stuff was sweet) Plus, they're D-line played some sweet stuff when they came off, and that was SWEET! #2 - Glassmen and Jazzifying - This DEFINATELY works. I heard people talking about how the only part of the show that was great was the closer, and they didn't really like the first half. Seriously now, this show was friggin awesome, ALL of it, not just the closer. Oh yeah, they're D-line laid it down coming off the field as well. #3 - Madison & the soft ending NO LONGER EXISTS - Okay, so I've never seen the show before, but people have been talking on here that the new ending is "soft", and the ending I saw was definately not soft. It was kinda like last year's ending(even in a similar or same set as last year)...(like the bottom of a Fluer-de-lis) The ending was more of a ballad what with Carmen dying and all, but it was still a loud hold, so I'm almost postive the old...new... ending is gone. #4 - Phantom doing Gershwin - I was afraid I wouldn't recognoize them doing jazzy stuff, but they're still Phantom! And that guy definately stole the show(exluding the part where the rest of the guard changes their unis and come back out). Oh yeah, and the ending where he's in backfield with the umbrella is great the way it is, VERY COOL. (still not really anyone with rainsticks though...that should turn around come finals I'm sure). Oh yeah, and Phantom's BASS DRUMS are frickin amazing... #5 - BLOO and the beat guy - Okay, I was afraid I wouldn't like it at all, but I guess it kinda works. IMO it would've worked better if EVERYONE was doing it and not just him...and if it wasn't amplified. Kinda sounds like a japanese rapper(and yes I've heard japanese rappers before ) I'll write a review soon
  14. And they also own the new universal sign for choking. (of course, I'm not one to talk, I'm from Cleveland :P We've got the Browns, the Indians, and the Cavaliers. The Browns and Indians have come SOOOOO close and dropped like anvils, and the Cavaliers have "the greatest player ever" and they still suck ### ) We had the best baseball team we've ever had in half a century in the 90's and they still gave up the world series...TWICE! (Of course, we beat the Yankees once last year like 20some to a single digit, so at least we've got that eh? And we also own the biggest comeback game ever, so I'm kinda happy. )
  15. DIVISION I 1 Santa Clara Vanguard 86.250 (9th) 2 Blue Knights 85.900 (10th) 3 Glassmen 85.050 (11th) 4 Spirit from JSU 84.150 (12th) 5 Colts 82.550 (13th) 6 Crossmen 81.425 (14th) 7 Southwind 79.000 (15th) 8 Mandarins 77.925 (16th) 9 Seattle Cascades 77.675 (17th) 10 Capital Regiment 77.200 (18th) 11 The Magic 76.025 12 Esperanza 74.800 13 Troopers 73.100 14 Pioneer 71.050 15 Kiwanis Kavaliers 68.200 Talk about you're tight squeezes...jeez! With any luck we'll have a tie for 17th place (AND a tie for 12th place )
  16. I think they said they were gonna start out with all the Div 1 finalists for now, and gradually start adding in more and more media. (Possibly vids, Div II and III, and non-finalists). So yeah, when the season's over and they're not as busy with competitions and such, I'm sure they'll add em in. But being the first year for S. Pass, they only put the Div 1 finalists. (you can tell they're gonna do it too; if you click on the list of corps a lot of Div 2 corps are listed, so yeah, they'll do it eventually)...(well they did list them before....where'd all the Div II corps go? They were on the list a few days ago.) idono, they're probably still screwin with it.
  17. Place Corps Score DIVISION II 1 Spartans 88.450 2 Impulse 84.200 3 Teal Sound 83.050 4 Oregon Crusaders 83.000 5 Memphis Sound 78.250 DIVISION III 1 Revolution eh...they didn't win, but still :)
  18. I think the only reason corps try to fill in as much time as possible is to give the fans as much as possible. I don't really think a show is more difficult if it's the maximum time. You can't honestly say that Star 91 was an easy show, so personally I don't think it matters. ...unless you're performing like a 7 or 8 minute show...then I'll be ###### at you for not giving me more of a show
  19. I believe it's gonna be back at Camp Randall...not entirely sure though.
  20. Thanks a bunch! single seats in the 20's eh...maybe if I get lucky I can find two seats a little closer to the center.
  21. (About to ask a dumb question) Okay, so I'm planning on going to the Massilon show...but I don't know when to get there...(this'll be my first Live DCI show...) just wonderin when the show starts... (The show's website doesn't have alot of info about it)
  22. 1 Phantom Regiment 88.800 2 Madison Scouts 88.650 3 Bluecoats 87.450 4 Boston Crusaders 85.600 5 Santa Clara Vanguard 83.600 6 Glassmen 82.000 7 Southwind 75.300 I don't know whether to be sad or happy for PR & Scouts
