Putting all the scores from June 16th together just for observation. (MD) Annapolis, MD (CA) Pleasant Hill, CA (MN) Coon Rapids, MN Blue Devils 75.900 (CA) SCV 75.400 (CA) Cavaliers 73.900 (MD) Phantom 72.800 (MN) Bluecoats 71.600 (MD) Cadets 70.700 (MD) Crown 70.350 (MD) Blue Knights 67.050 (MN) Colts 65.600 (MN) Mandarins 63.400 (CA) Blue Stars 62.650 (MN) Glassmen 61.850 (MD) Spirit 60.900 (MD) Pioneer 53.750 (MN) Three different shows with different judges. Lot's of first show jitters. Some corps have easier shows than others so they tend to get cleaner earlier than others. Back in the 80's west coast judges tended to give relatively high scores early season compared to the rest of the country and it seems like that's still happening now.

Lot's of drum corps' guards don't actually start work till after winter guard season is over in April. In many cases, they don't get their costume designs in to the manufacturers till that point as well. This happens with marching bands, too. Not just drum corps. The first couple of weeks their shows will be incomplete. Sometimes even drill won't be quite finished. It's the nature of the beast. Early season shows are ALWAYS like that. Your soap box is unwarranted. If you don't like it, wait till after July 4th to attend a show.

These photos were taken in different locations with different lighting and different cameras. The pic of the snare line was most likely taken with a film camera and may have also used filters. This isn't the best evidence of a change in color. -

Bluecoats... Best new uniform of the year. Best uniform I've seen in ages. Incredibly friggin cool. Crown, what were you thinking? This bites gluteus maximus. It's back to the traditional Cadets uniform, folks. Nothing fancy, just pure Cadets... and it still looks great. The changes to Phantoms uni must be very subtle except for the new sash. I can't see any other difference than that. Ummmm.... right. It's an improvement from the last one for sure but it's not the best uniform in DCI. Bluecoats are going to out-cool everyone. B) -

DCI Uses the "Student" Word!
THX 1138 replied to marshamello's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
In response to the original post... Where do you expect DCI corps to get their members from besides high school and college band STUDENTS? Most likely at least 90% of the drum corps vets on this forum were band STUDENTS at one time in their life. I was a band STUDENT and if my high school band director hadn't taken us to DCI shows and shown us DCI DVD's we possibly would have never known anything about drum corps. What do you think would happen if DCI stopped courting band directors and their STUDENTS? If it weren't for these STUDENTS there wouldn't be much left of the drum corps activity. So stop your complaining and be glad that DCI is doing everything they can to keep a good relationship with the marching band community because if it werent' for those STUDENTS the future of the drum corps activity would be very dismal. -
