Foks, I tried to cajole Curt into a trip out east, and I got the same story. No "kitchen-pass" next weekend.
But you've got a whole lotta points built up for next year brother!
Totally, 100% Kilties. They'll be coming primed and ready to get solidly into finals. Not to mention THE MIDWEST ROCKS.
No disrespect to CRU, of course.
If you don't like your July score being used for seeding, than do what Midwest DCA corps did for years; plunk down considerable time and money and get your ##### to an August DCA show.
Chris Metzger, 1975 Madison Scouts soprano soloist. He was the best sop soloist in drum corps history - bar none.
His range was stratospheric, and yet, his lower register had a beautiful tone quality.
Second to Chris was 1977 Bridgemen's sop soloist ... whose name escapes me. His Pagliacci and Harlem Nocturne solos are legendary.
Bingo. Give that man a star.
Competition is partly about holding an advantage over other competitors. Strategy plays a big part in winning championships. It's not an accident that the top-3 corps are generally younger.
It's fantastic Mike that you're still going strong with Cabs! Brass had a guy named Dick who marched contra/tuba up until around 2003 ... when he was 72! ... 72 and marching Tuba!!!!!
Hey Jonny Boy!
That trumpet average would be a heckuva lot higher if Roger, Curt and I were marching this year! :P
You restore my faith in youth when you call a tuba a contra. Well done.
There are no "underage" as you put it, in DCA. DCA is all-age. Whether a corps fields a group with an average age that is junior-ish or one that skews much higher - it matters-not to DCA rules. Your post subtlely suggests that the younger eastern corps are winning by circumventing ("underage") age guidelines - when there are in-fact no such restrictions.
Stacking a corps with young, agile performers is fair-game and fair-play.... and smart.
Yes: it should be mandated that the flutes, clarinets and saxaphones that are coming soon - and are the last nail in the coffin of real drum corps - should be retro-fitted for bell-front, to give the illusion that the activity we knew and loved is not in-fact dead and gone.
Frank,
Besides the over-the-top, obnoxious, preachy narration, I agree - after seeing Cadets live in Atlanta - that their hornline is amazing. Incredible ensemble sound and loud, loud, loud.
