  1. Well stated. There were at least 1 or 2 hornlines that were right there with Regiment, if not better. There were some monsters on that field this year. I can only hope all corps continue to strive towards that level. What a treat for we the fans if they do!
  2. PR just did it better than just about anybody ever has. To say Spartacus "doesn't even come close to the level or category of Four Corners or Stonehenge" is, IMHO, pretty silly. 1. PR - hands down 2. BD - also hands down 3. Cadets - minus the chatter, 2nd 4. Crown 5. Cavies 6 - 12. The best 6 - 12 in years.
  3. We all have the right to our opinions. I do feel, however, that most would disagree with you. Yes, PR should have won. I think that, by the crowd response, it is easy to see that those of us who actually viewed the live finals performances resoundingly agreed with the judges. You have the right to your opinion, and yes, BD may have been cleaner from a performance standpoint, but that is not the final criteria for the winner...it is a component. General Effect is a large part of the final score, and PR obviously had the advantage in that catagory on finals night, and BD did not compare to PR in brass, and certainly not in percussion (nobody was in the same hemisphere). BD rocks...congrats on another amazing year. But stop trying to knock PR when they eaked out the tough win against some amazing competition. Trying at this point to say BD got screwed, well quite frankly...
  4. My first drum corps show was DCM Championships, 1988. My good buddy and college roommate and fraternity brother, Dwight Emmert (who is now the visual caption head for the current DCI CHAMPION Phantom Regiment!!!), was marching his age out year with PR. I was awe-inspired by the beauty and power of that show. I feel today (as I did then) that if DCI had not opted for their "great experiment" of pulling the corps performance order out of a hat, that PR could have been a top 3 corps, if not a contender. It seems that other forces prevailed that year, and PR was resoundingly NOT part of that party. Not to take away from the Scouts grand performance that year ( ), but seriously, does anyone who saw those shows live that year think that Madison was REALLY that far ahead of PR????? I am sure that many do, but pull out the tapes (was it vcr or reel to reel?), and take a close look... The follwing season, my aged-out friend and I witnessed PR '89 at their very first show of the season (Dwight's lil' bro was marching contra). After the opening statement, Dwight leaned over and said "we weren't that loud at finals last year!" to me. Thus begun a huge, fantastic summer of following PR around at as many shows as possible. '89 finals was a mixed blessing of being there, feeling the power, and then realizing that the corps that should have won in '88 was getting their prize ahead of PR this year...ouch. I miss the G bugle days, but man, oh man am I happy that PR finally has their own Championship to cherish. "disclaimer...I am a fan of the activity...PR is my favorite. I am no hater to any corps, and just because I don't always agree with placement, does not mean I have ANY disrespect for ANY corps. God bless this activity, and all active corps who find a way to make it work in these trying economic times. Long live music...long live the activity...
  5. It was obvious (although it was on live feed, not REALLY live) the difference between G and Bb at the cinecast...when they showed the highlight tapes of a corps (ie: Regiment '89) the difference in power compared to the shows from that night. I can understand to a point the switch, but MAN, gimme a G hornline at point-blank range any day. :)
  6. Was impressed with Cadets, Cavies could have been cleaner, Coats are just killing me, Crown was beautiful. But there is NO contest. Phantom Regiment...hands down...no equal. (IMHO)
  7. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> LOL!! Bermuda shorts! I love it!! Ain't is amazin' how fashion changes over the years! Takes me back to my high school marching days! I started out in a very traditional looking uniform with the big ol' Q-tip looking hat, then switched to a very "Espanol" looking blouse/pants combo - then something that looked like an orange and blue version of SCV circa 1970's. As you can imagine, the chicks went crazy over me! :P
  8. Wow...what a review. Thank you for taking the time! 2005 Phantom Regiment
  9. Cadets, Cavies, BD always a threat. Bluecoats continue to impress. Also, look for SCV to want some blood. And my pick...Phantom Regiment on their 50th anniversary. GO PHOR IT!!!!
  10. Well done! BBBBLLLLLLOOOOOOO!!!!!! :P
  11. Ain't the first time they judges have gotten it wrong. :sshh:
  12. Awesome review! Thanks for taking the time. You (all 3) obviously have a great handle on what this activity is all about. :)
  13. ####### HILARIOUS! Would suggest that clarinet is pronounced ala "The Music Man" i.e. "He's practicing his clar-i-a-net." B) Would also fall over if I hear a big YOWZA tonight. b**bs
