  1. and this has been my contention for years. While some here will dispute this, there are more people that dislike the electronics than those that like it. Fans have quit going to shows because of electronics. Fans haven't came to shows because of electronics. Why continue something that has a sum negative effect on attendance?
  2. mic'd narrative synths guitars bass guitars amp'd pits when they are horribly overbearing (which is often) I don't mind the pits being amp'd when they are actually amp'd correctly. Unfortunately, that's not always, or often, the case.
  3. actually, the first show I saw was the US Open in 1977... that's like saying season 7 episode 1 of American Idol is the same as season 7 episode 8 of American Idol...same title...different show. Are you gonna say that Spartacus 81 is the same show as Spartacus 08?
  4. newer and younger kids come out to the shows because of the excellence of drum corps, not because of electronics. they'd still be coming out to the shows if there were no electronics in drum corps...that's the point i've been making forever. electronics doesn't draw people to drum corps, but it sure does drive some away. I've been watching drum corps for 33 years, and i've yet to see a repeat show...whacky...
  5. I like the finish on that one...not necessarily the color, but that would look sweet in so many different colors. interesting bolt pattern. doesn't have a straight through like pearl does...shoots the gaps on the free floater part...
  6. how does adding electronics make it unique? that just makes it closer to BOA. Unique was brass, percussion, and guard. Changing it from unique to something that already exists is insane. and I already had the whole like argument earlier.
  7. don't really care about this argument, but that music is freaking awesome...I wanna hear it on the field...again.
  8. you are part of DCI's marketing group, aren't you? Why would a brand new 3 valve G sop be any harder to tune than a brand new 3 valve Bb trumpet? Years ago...as in decades ago...maybe..now? not so much. adding voice, electronics, etc., changes it from one thing to another...we've had this circular argument for the last few years. When it's a niche activity, it has to be unique, or it disappears.
  9. you're really gonna compare recordings from the early 70's with the late 2000's? really? Do you still bemoan the fact that your Commodore Vic 20 doesn't have enough RAM to play solitaire?
  10. quote for me where I said that I wouldn't attend if a corps had synth? If woodwinds HAD been added a few years back, I wouldn't be attending shows. I never said electric was my last straw. Woodwinds is my last straw. It's just that electronics are awful close, and sometimes, they do indeed cross the line. Now go form your rock and roll U2 drum corps, or take up basket weaving or something. Stalking is weird...
  11. actually, if you read woodwinds/synth TOGETHER, that will solve all your brain woes. Someone needs a hobby.
  12. and I've never said all the legacy fans have quit going... and AMPED voice was added 7 years ago...amplified voice is a new instrument. (and save it...I know yer gonna say it's not...let's agree to disagree on this one)
  13. and you make it sound like everyone that goes likes electronics... every legacy fan has their own "last straw". for some of them, it was G to Bb..for some it was 128 to 135 to 150...for some it was electronics...for some it's gonna be woodwinds...for some, the brazilian monkey corps farting malaguena...and winning, won't be a last straw.
  14. that's exactly my point...there's been 3 instrument changes in the last 40 years, and 2 of those were in the last 7...amplified voice was 7 years ago...there's always been voice hiding in there... there's been numerous other changes...that don't directly affect the fan...
  15. you are assuming that my irritation at electronics is the same as my irritation at woodwinds. it is not. before you start delving into my past, checking bank accounts, and bizarrely wasting all your gray matter on the definitions, convictions, and irritations level that emanates from my skull, perhaps you should use all the effort on why you care?
  16. my belief structure? now yer getting creepy...
  17. go up 7 responses... first off, you don't no wtf my creed is, as you don't know my definition of proper sound is, and the levels at which certain electronics irritate me. Some electronics are used subtly...some aren't. If it's subtle, it's easier to ignore...sometimes it just can't be ignored. For someone wanting more people to attend, yer doing yer best to get me to quit attending, for some reason.
  18. you....don't read...anything...do you?
  19. if one corps adds woodwinds, all corps will, because it will be one of those sum positive score things, like electronics...so no..I won't be attending
  20. I'll rephrase...if they gave more judging bias to music instead of vis, perhaps designers would go back to basing their shows upon music instead of visual, and it's easier to practice music than it is drill.
  21. you just won't be able to hear ANYTHING anything anything
  22. agree...it's painfully obvious they aren't penalized, though, when it comes to electrical imbalance.
  23. some use them unobtrusively...some don't...pit overamplification is as bad or worse than synth
