  1. And entered the field from the corner of the end zone, with a "head chopper" as the opening drill move. C'mon - that was Classic!!
  2. Because?.................. They are "above" that? They are too important for that? They are too good for that? They don't "owe it" to the activity or to anyone to show that respect? Retreat is stupid and they shouldn't have to waste their precious time? Playing America is trite and stupid? Have I covered it?
  3. Okay okay. Here's some old stuff that gets me crankin. 1975 Scouts (no explanation necessary) 1974 Muchachos (ditto) 1976 Blue Devils (another ditto) 1979 Phantom (Elsa's Procession...need I say more?) 1980 Bridgemen (the "unknown comic"...remember the Gong Show?) 1977 27th Lancers (Rocky, Gaite Parisian, Danny Boy) 1981 Lancers 1984 & 1985 & 1986 SCV That's ten. And barely scratches the surface.... Don't forget - the shows were LONGER back then...
  4. OK I have issues. We started this chat on your first workout thread yesterday. You see - I workout to FOUR shows, and WAS pretty proud of myself for going 45 minutes. Now you come in here and do TEN?!?!?!??!!? Thanks for nuthin'. But anyway, what I do personally is go through the legacy collection - start with 1972, which keeps me going for a couple days; then progress on through the years. The new ones, such as 2007, I can listen to over and over for a couple weeks before I feel the need for something different. But that's just me, the guy who can barely make it through FOUR...... But I'm with you - working out to drum corps music is a great way to do it, isn't it?
  5. The guard wearing horizontal yellow and black uniforms that made them look like bumble bees. You know the corps and year - don't make me say it.
  6. W-W-Wait a second: You work out for 100 - 115 minutes at a time?? YOU MONSTER !!!!!!!!!
  7. I find YOUR comments depressing. Cut the faux hypersensitivity. I have 4 kids and all have been to numerous drum corps shows. I would NEVER tolerate their being a disturbance to others around them. As a parent, you quiet them immediately, or you GET UP AND LEAVE THE AREA. My rights stop where yours begin, and I don't have the right to mess up your viewing of the performance. Parents who allow their children to become a disturbance are self-centered twits and should be ashamed of themselves. It's NOT the child's fault here, it's the parents.
  8. Okay, I'll enter this fray: I'm also a parent, of four. Never would I take one of my kids to Finals when they weren't old enough to behave themselves. And, last week, I had three of them with me - the youngest was 9. And, at Quarterfinals, two rows behind us, was a darling 5 year old (or so) who would not shut up!!!..... I really don't want to listen to a discussion as to whether the killing is pretend. Aargh. I've been attending drum corps shows every summer for forever, and hauling my kids along. When they were tots, mom would take them over to the other side of the stadium (mom, who will never understand what all the fuss is about with drum corps...) and let them play in the grass. You just don't subject other paying people to your kids when they can't sit still. And NEVER at Finals, for Heaven's sake.
  9. Hey - this thread has suddenly grown to 27 pages. That can only mean one thing: Jeff and Mike D are here !!!!! Hey guys! You're entertaining as heck.
  10. Don't forget to write your dear old mother, yowza yowza Classic stuff..................
  11. You know this post? Just before this is probably when you should have stopped. You got your answer to your original question. Yet you continue. I am forced to conclude that you are, in fact, a troll. FAIL.
  12. I was in Bloomington. I saw no "leg spread move." So you can rest easy. But my nine year old loved the killing. Strange - he knew it wasn't real.........must be a future MENSA member. I thought, after reading DCP, I might have to hide him under the bed (metaphorically - they checked bags and probably wouldn't have let me bring a bed into the stadium) during their show. He thought the "slave show" should have won. Guess he was right. Of course, he also said, concerning the Cadets, that "the talking wrecked the whole thing." So precocious - he hasn't learned that he hurts the kids' feelings when he voices an opinion like that.
  13. Hop seems to want to force it to fit. Unfortunately.
  14. I didn't see BD doing anything new creatively. Same old song snippets, a lot of running around. I know this sounds mean, and I'm sorry. I'm just reacting to your post. I thought PR was so far above everyone else this year, yet I expected them to not take first, based on 35 years of history. What a pleasant surprise.
  15. This is also the first time, as a Division 1 corps, that Blue Stars scored above 90. During their run in the '70's, including 2nd and 3rd place finishes, they never broke 90. Of course, the scoring system now is radically different, but still, quite an accomplishment.
  16. I saw Cadets show early in the season in Madison, and then again in Bloomington. They changed the narration a ton, to the point that the story line was completely different. Early season - cancer.....the way to be happy is a snap - then snaps her fingers....very weird and to be frank, laughable. Then in Bloomington...much more upbeat, positive, reflective on being grateful for what she has. So, this made me realize something beyond the narration. The content changed radically, but the music didn't. I realized that the narration really wasn't integral to the show design or content. How could it be when it changed completely? So, in this case anyway, I believe the narration wasn't integral to the show, it was overlaid and completely distracting. My 9 year old said it best Thursday (without any prompting - believe it or don't) - "all the talking wrecked the whole thing."
  17. Agree. I was there Thursday and Friday and the crowd didn't seem particularly partisan toward any one corps. Kinda surprised me, actually.
  18. Did you instruct her that this particular corps is being "cutting edge" and how dare she question why there's a stage in the middle of the field? You know, some sensitive people equate questioning with criticizing, and that's strictly prohibited, because, that would be criticizing "the kids." Geeze. Some 4.5 year olds..........
