  1. I gave my idea. All I hear from y’all is how it can’t be done. I hear no other ideas. This has been the DCP model forever. Anyway, Back to the future is the only way to go. Regional model means, stay within your northeast, midwest, west, south home area. Or approximations of that. No shows? Build shows. Eliminate the regionals. Build corps with local kids. House them with hosts. Practice locally. If the overriding expense is travel and housing then attack it with significantly less travel and more creative, cheaper housing. Then All corps meet one time per year, at finals week. The excitement!! The only thing that would prevent this is the “it can’t be done” attitude. If my idea lacks merit, I look forward to reading yours.
  2. Edit - there’s just something about this that seems elitist and wrong. I never think telling someone to shut up is the way to work through an issue. It’s what you say when you don’t have a good argument. Those who thought A&E were the wrong way to go were told to shut up. Where is their money now? Not being spent on drum corps. So, how did that turn out? Now we are all smart and decided it’s moving the busses down the road that is the big expense. Ok. Well, what’s the solution to that. I offered up one. End the regionals. Stay local until finals week.
  3. What a dumb statement. One cannot separate spending from revenue. They go together. Or your corps goes inactive I guess.
  4. If you don’t like it, shut up or go away? Yeah that attitude had nothing to do with it. AxelL nailed it.
  5. Ugh so angry right now. It seems every argument had a counterpoint. Amps and gizmos add cost. No they actually don’t. DCI needs to get costs under control. No, DCI is the corps. DCI has no power to do that. We shouldn’t add more stuff to the field. No, drum corps needs to be allowed to evolve. it never ended. Well, now it is ending. Final results are pretty much established at the first regional. So why bother? Eliminate the regionals. Have all the corps meet only once - at finals week. Imagine the excitement that would generate. Rest of the year, stay local. Oh, but the quality might decline. At this point, who cares? Survival of the activity is at stake. Maybe we need fewer pageantry leaches, significantly reduced staffs, significantly less travel, significant more local community engagement. But who cares what I think…
  6. I guess unless you’re a victim stepping forward it would be hard to understand. So anyone saying “some comments” want to shut it all done, can seem to be aimed at you. It would have been infinitely better to say - Hockeydad, you bum, you would rather shut it all down? Then I could reply - Yes. I would prefer that to ongoing sexual assaults. Then the blame can be placed on me. And I can handle it.
  7. And THIS is how you victim blame. Well done!
  8. No. DCI directs that each corps has one adult monitor in each bus (just making stuff up here) or you won’t be entered in your next show. That’s the kind of actions I’m thinking about. That’s nowhere in the same galaxy as reckless. And I get that we live in a litigious society but lawsuit? Just no. Someone said, and I think it was Theodore Roosevelt - at times of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing; the next best thing is the wrong thing; and the worst thing you can do is nothing. It is past time for DCI to act.
  9. When the day comes that the #### hits the fan, I want to see DCI shrug their shoulders and claim there was nothing they could do because you see, “DCI is the corps.” Yes, I want to see how far that flies. Take charge DCI. Whether you think you have the authority or not, do it anyway. You will discover that the corps will follow your lead.
  10. What is success? Success is no one gets sexually abused in a drum corps again. If SOA taking a one year timeout doesn’t do it, and spoiler alert, it won’t, then more needs to be done. I’m sorry if that means we miss our 10 minute pageantry shows until DCI takes this seriously instead of the empty words we’re getting from them now.
  11. It demonstrates that they are unserious, or stupid. Or both.
  12. Not really. It just covers your butt against false accusations of wrongdoing. I read that Ronald Reagan had this same policy. Nearly back in your day haha.
  13. Well, here we are. I’m a bit of a simpleton and can only understand things by trying to boil them down into short summaries. Here’s when I am after reading though the thread: Safesport is toothless DCI will take no action unless backed up against the wall The individual corps, who “are DCI”, don’t have the resources and/or training and/or sufficient concern to police themselves effectively to prevent sexual assault. As a practicing Catholic this has an all too familiar ring and it makes my stomach hurt. Burn it all down? Yes, if that’s what it takes to stop this. And blame it on me, not the OP. The Order who ran my and several other parishes went bankrupt and no longer exists because the “fathers” and “brothers” couldn’t keep things zipped. And they are gone. Good riddance. That’s what it took to move on. Is that what it will take with DCI? If so, so be it!
  14. They could (*shudder*) get a summer job. 😏
  15. I’m not claiming this lawsuit can burn dci to the ground. So we can do a hard stop about that. BUT - if it takes burning the activity to the ground to stop the sexual abuse of participants, then that’s what I’m for. It’s more important than wanting my 10 minute performances.
  16. Absent some very intrusive monitoring from cranky old ‘get off my lawn’ types like me, I’m afraid you are correct. And you couldn’t pay me enough to be the hall monitor all summer, let alone hope I would volunteer to do it.
  17. I’m sorry, but this (what the SOA member alleges) is disgusting and sickening. And this isn’t from 2010. It’s from 2021. And it occurred despite literally countless prior examples, in drum corps and outside of drum corps. I have to conclude there is nothing that will eliminate this behavior in this activity, configured as it is with kids supervising kids, basically. The clock is counting down on this activity. I wonder how the “but DCI is the corps” will fly in a court of law.
  18. Certainty you’ve followed the Madison Scouts thread, right? On that thread the BOD apologists like to say, in an attempt to dismiss the poor placement year after year, that the kids are having fun, and that’s all that matters. That’s what I’m referring to. I thought it would be obvious. No one said it on this thread. My bad.
  19. So much for that argument that placements don’t matter because all that matters is the kids are having fun.
  20. Is it possible they didn’t know they had the audit report? Maybe someone went through a stack of papers and said - hey, what’s this? Second thought - how can an org in such financial difficulties afford to have lawyers communicate with you? Do you really threaten them that much?
  21. Well, I’m not sure who Pete is but they already have a “legit” 3-peat. No reason they won’t make it four in ‘24.
  22. Apparently I got under his skin to the point that he went through my posting history and found an old post where I agree with myself (shocking). And tosses in the obligatory “FFS”. Yeah, that really won me over and changed my mind. People get to have differing opinions. But we should be able to disagree without being disagreeable ($1 to John Wooden). Versus launching into ad hominem attack mode.
