  1. This is going to end up being about a 15 minute presentation due to the time limit. Basically I'm hoping to simply construct a timeline handout that I can give everyone that shows the evolution from the valveless "field bugle" to the modern valve brass instruments like trupet and tuba.
  2. Yeah... I saw that for sale on a few websites... $85 I don't have. It's for my music education class, we're required to teach mini-lessons to the class, setting up the entire scenario from what age the class is to what they've already learned etc etc.
  3. Pictures... sure, those might be helpful. I'm using this for a "micro-teaching" presentation. In a physics class last year I built a bugle out of copper piping and a kitchen funnel :)
  4. I've been searching the web but I cannot find a formal timeline. I am looking for a timeline which shows the evolution of the bugle from valveless bugle to modern 3-valve Bb "bugle". Does anyone have a timeline or know of where one may be online?? Thank you in advance! (project being presented Dec. 5th)
  5. I don't post on here too often, but I do like to read the forums every once in a while for posts like this. I really like what you have going on here. I like the subject matter (naturally) - but (and I'm no english major but I loooooove writing and it comes quite naturally to me) I would love to see more description. Really, all I can do is stress what people have already said: ~remember your audience, they probably won't know anything about DCI ~be descriptive, do what you can to pull your audience into your paper ~try to lengthen the sentences some, read your paper out-loud and ask yourself "does it read well, does it flow?" I've written quite a few papers about my drum corps experience as well, one of which was quite risky to write and I had to get permission from corps staff to turn it into my professor. BUT! My point is it is a wonderful hobby of mine and a great reflective exercise, a wonderful way to escape stress, and often I find that if you go back and reflect, you'll find things that you didn't find when it happened. I will happily share one of these papers with you if you would like, just send me a PM ^_^
  6. ...I must comment on your patience to include all the random ones etc lol On Topic: I don't really get around to many other corps videos, as in I don't go and search for them really - towards Bluecoats videos I've noticed that each year seems to have some different music behind the camp videos. I do wish it'd be more of the show music, but I can understand keeping it under wraps too. (and of course that understanding goes for all of the videos - its not suprising that corps want to try and get the most suprise out of an audience as possible once tour starts)
  7. I used Kiwi Sport shoe cleaner or something like that last summer but never used the brush that came with it unless I was working on the bottoms of the shoes. I'd then clean them off with baby wipes. For the horn - Wrights Silver CREAM - the polish will strip the silver off the horn. A good way to get it sparkling clean (but can be difficult if you're on a time constraint... ya know, like 15 minutes or something...) - put on the Wrights, and go have a party in the shower - you rinse off the Wrights and the water helps get dirt out of the little impossible-to-reach places. When you're done just wipe down the horn to avoid water spots. edit: I would be curious to see how TarniShield would work on a corps horn. Used that stuff in high school on our sousaphones (eww) and there was something about it that was supposed to prevent tarnishing. I was with a fairly competitive hs marching band so we had rehearsals 4 days a week and such, rain or shine - I polished that horn maybe three times an entire marching band season. But yeah, high school marching band... can't compare too much - but would still be curious to see how TarniShield would work w/ corps horns.
  8. Thanks Allaina, I just checked a few days ago for an updated video, and not having seen one up yet I wasn't going to check back for a good while! See you in a few weeks! ...34 days...
  9. Ok... its likely I was the only one to catch this... just thought it was humorous. if you don't get what i'm referring to... take another look at what is in bold in the quote.
  10. Yeah... I was suprised to see a clip go up and naturally I dig it. It would have been recorded in a large indoor field house which explains the poor acoustics - a sneeze would echo for minutes in that place.
  11. LoL - I would SO say Cincinnati if I didn't live here and know that we have no applealing stadium (at least in my opinion) for DCI Finals... I don't know if it was on the list but Indy could be cool once the new stadium is built.
  12. I think part of the long-ish explination was also to explain the title... after the announcement I mentioned 'connexus' to a friend, told him it combined the words 'connection' and 'nexus' and immediately we had to look up the definition of 'nexus'... plus dave probably elaborated on things somewhat to prevent saying things twice ^OO^ hehe And hey Detch... I fixed it for you: It is about connections, enough said (count them theres 6)
  13. Great so now we can hit up Dave's HS in Michigan & then Doug's house in Canada... but really... how will Doug's house relate to the Swaldo's?? I think the Swaldo's will win...
