  1. Alright, I'll be honest. I've never sat down and truly hashed out my thoughts in a review like this so bear with me. I'm used to the short sweet tweets and updates to DCP so without further ado, here we go. Also I hope the pictures aren't too big, photobucket has a tendency to make my pictures ginormous, so if they are I'll have to go and resize them. RACINE SCOUTS: The American Experience Coming from a smaller corps myself I love seeing the heart that these guys put out. They only had 30 members which broke down into 2 front ensemble (marimba and vibe) 4 bass drums, 4 color guard, about 5 members who did not know the show yet and stood on the sideline and roughly 10-12 brass. You could tell that some of the horn players definitely had some talent and they were featured with exposed parts. They started off with bass drums tapping on the field and doing some drill formations and did some very simple drill during the first half of the show. The second half consisted of a horn arc playing with very little front ensemble and nothing in the bass drums. I would love to see so much more from these guys and I can only imagine the extremely difficult situation they find themselves in. TROOPERS: This Was the Future As I posted here I absolutely LOVED their opening statement. Very intense drum and front ensemble parts with drill all over the place and the horns come blasting in with a long sustained chord in a set resembling their infinity chord from last year. However the opening statement was probably my favorite part of the show. Afterwards it just seemed to become so busy and confusing that I wasn't for sure where to keep my focus. Don't get me wrong, they play the hell out of their show and their brass line has got some balls this year. There were some very cool vaudeville moments throughout but maybe that's why it seemed so confusing at points. I was talking to one of the judges and he told me it was mostly original music (please correct me if I am wrong), thus being, the crowd also had a hard time following the show it seemed. We all loved the park and blows but again where was our focus supposed to be at? After just one viewing (and what I have read of other corps so far this year) I do not see the Troopers breaking into finals with this show. Sorry Troop fans. GLASSMEN: Glassworks This was a interesting show that seemed like it wasn't quite finished to me. I realize it's only June 24th but that's how it seemed. The drumline, as it has been for the past few years, was very sharp. I would easily say it was the strongest part of the corps. The hornline did not quite have the same power as Troop and there were times it seemed that there was phasing between individual sections. Hornline did shine during the ballad though. Very strong statements throughout but again, just seemed slightly incomplete or that there could've been more. It just didn't seem to leave an impression on me. I swear I'm not trying to be a negative nancy. I see them as right on the edge of finals this year. Okay, intermission time for me just like it was in the show. This is taking longer than I thought.
  2. Hello folks I am home and on my computer. I sincerely apologize for not planning ahead and charging my phone and iPod. I truly enjoy live tweeting and sharing some of my perspectives on the shows because the majority of the time I'm just like you guys sitting at home hitting refresh hoping for a tasty little tidbit about the show. So to make up for it I am going to attempt to write a (brief) review on each corps tonight complete with pictures taken from ON TOP of the press box. No worries about bias here as I did not have a horse in the race and just love good drum corps. Review will be up hopefully in the next 15 minutes or so depending on how fast I type.
  3. Glassmen on the field, start the show from huge spread out set.
  4. Crowd loves Troops show. Lots of power but very busy and a little confusing the middle. Judges enjoyed it lol
  5. Kinda appropriate that a large train rolls by in the background and gives two horn blasts during troops show. I laughed.
  6. Fair warning, iPod battery could die at any moment so I may be switching over to twitter from my cell phone.
  7. Maybe it's because I'm exactly where the judges are and it's where the bells are pointed but ####, Troops horns have got some power!
  8. Troop entering the field! Love the DM uniform like always. Pit in old west garb is pretty cool.
  9. Overheard from the judges that because Racine had 30 members they WILL be receiving a score tonight.
  10. Racine only put half the show marching. Lots of crowd support for them. Gotta give them credit for coming out and trying.
  11. No helmets but full uni otherwise. About 30 members
  12. Judges have arrived...already hearing some interesting thoughts. This is a whole new perspective for a former marcher.
  13. Greetings from Sioux Falls! I am at the show already (I'm volunteering and they put me with the judges tonight...Heaven help me) and it should be a beautiful, but slightly windy night for Drum Corps. Pioneer will not be at the show tonight :( if I heard correctly they had a sponsorship conflict, whatever that means. I will attempt to either post here or tweet some thoughts (@JordanLuckyR) but no guarantees because I am technically supposed to be working the show. I also have my camera with me so I'll try and get pictures and post them later tonight. Looking forward to a great show!
  14. Hope this is true! Spent many times from 04-07 meeting and hanging with SW people after shows. Was sad to see them go.
  15. Hoping for Sioux Falls, SD then the DCI Minnesota regional, then all 3 days of Finals.
  16. Hmm, interesting. I wonder when that was posted, because I still have my pre-order ticket and it says: "World Championships DVD Vol. 2 - Features 13th-25th placing World Championship Corps" It doesn't distinguish between World and Open class there.
  17. Got mine today!! Can't wait to pop them in and relive this last season! However, I do have a question/complaint. I got the full DVD/CD bundle which includes both DVD's and CD of the top 25 corps....or so I thought. On the CD track list it looks like this (by finals placement): 1-18 20-21 24-25 27 Bonus Tracks 19 (BDB) 22 (OC) 23 (SCVC) The DVD list looks like this Disc 1: 1-12 Disc 2: 13-18 20-21 24-25 27 No Open class corps included on the DVD's at all. I assume Pioneer was included on the DVD/CD's because it is a World Class Corps which makes me happy because I thought they would be excluded for falling below 25th. Now did I miss something completely where it said Open Class Corps were being excluded from the 2nd DVD even though they were in the top 25? That's a major bummer because I really enjoyed those shows this year and was expecting them to be on the DVD's as well. Can anyone help me out or point me in the right direction?
  18. Aw....I didn't get mine today. I pre-ordered and everything. Here's hoping I have a present waiting for me when I get home from work tomorrow.
  19. The fact that the subtitle now reads "this thread > Tebow" has me cracking up. Deadspin strikes again!
  20. Check the watermark, it's a Jolesch pic. They never STOP taking pictures during championships.
  21. Got this from an update from the Pioneer Facebook group 20 minutes ago: Discuss.
  22. 43 questions? I received the survey and filled it out and I had 49 questions. I wonder if it was dependent on how you answered certain questions.
  23. I bet if DCI took the video from finals showing the absolutely incredible fan reaction to ESOM and sent it to whoever has the syncing rights they would say yes in a heartbeat. How many people out there had never even heard of the song until Madison played it?
