  1. ok DCP needs to sponsor a post-show event each night to keep George from being bored! i nominate @2000Cadet to be event chairman! @DrumManTx can be the host :-) (i guess i'm easily entertained -- i go to corps rehearsals during the day )
  2. Indy is Indy. It's not gonna change. I get the boredom. I also get the numerous benefits of remaining there. The city might not be as entertaining as we'd like but the drum corps is still very entertaining. And that's why we're there in the first place right?
  3. The comment I made was more of respect than anything. Both Cadets and Cavaliers percussion lines have long histories of excellence. I'm sure Tom will straighten out percussion. The rest of the "issues" we will have to wait and see. I think there's cause for both hope and trepidation.
  4. Insulated from weather concerns for both warmups and performances. Things are very controllable and predictable. Not really a bad thing for finals. Drawback is that they won't see much growth. If you've done Indy you've done Indy. Honestly they could do Finals in the theater and probably not see much of drop off in attendance. Not sure they care because the big regionals are doing so well.
  5. I think it's more a case of the battery not being "exempted" from a lot of the dance that the rest of the corps is doing. Many corps will water or remove a lot of that vocabulary because the battery "just can't physically do that". The same comment can be applied to the hornline -- they're constantly being asked to do things which should impact their ability to play with excellence and control but somehow they manage to do it anyway. Don't think that's gonna go away -- it's just part of Crown's personality. edit: I just hope they're practicing their backwards jazz-running! #Sacktig #NoMercy
  6. On this at least we can agree. Even if it took a lot of salty preamble to get there.
  7. Tom Aungst's young padawan has stepped up into his place. And the force is strong with this one. (See: CWP) Obi Wan was great and having both of them there was ideal but if i had to pick one I'd rather have Luke. In fact Tom was quite happy at Crown. It was only Sith Lord Hopkins playing this card that got him to leave:
  8. And I don't think I said anything about running away with it. As I said earlier -- steps forward. The very nature of the competition is going to mean that sometimes they may be small steps. I'm willing to be patient.
  9. conveniently left off the second half of that statement -- which i'll gladly restate: Finishing in front of two teams like Cadets and Cavies is a big step for them. And I will stand by that.
  10. then they would have finished higher, right? and -- that staff has flown south now right? imo Crown's perc is improving each year. i don't care what anyone says -- finishing in front of two teams like Cadets and Cavies is a big step for them. I think they'll just keep moving forward under their current team. Might be slow -- competition is brutal -- but it will happen. one place at a time. crown 3rd in perc this season? who knows!
  11. you mean Cadets and Cavaliers? Crown finished 4th in the percussion caption last year in Indy. (oops)
  12. i think there have been so many absolutely awful high school rock band shows for such a long time that there was indeed a prejudice they couldn't quite overcome. i think it was automatically dismissed from medal contention (it certainly was not 1st place -- that was clearly the cadets all season long and deservedly so). look at the show from a "what" and "how" across all captions and it didn't really diverge from a standard crown rep. what did diverge was the thematic material. just my opinion. do i think that such a prejudice will affect Genesis? perhaps but probably not very much. they seem to have a very different show programmed (not a "rock" show).
  13. for penance perhaps you should listen to Dark Side of the Moon for 24hrs straight. then maybe -- MAYBE -- you'll escape hellfire and brimstone and eternal agony.
  14. ok being the pivotal word. did ok with Rach Star but did they credit what was played or did they struggle to get past "it's rock music" ?
  15. fwiw i'm not trying to indicate my reaction to this. i think DCI is still too stodgy. but i do think that's how many in green shirts will react. there's definitely an unspoken sense of what's appropriate, what's trend-setting, what we should take seriously, and what's not. heck i think there are people who will be up in arms about witchcraft. because it's the work of the devil trying to take over our children's minds.
  16. looks like Teal Sound was the only the other corps to do Metallica. (thought maybe they were breaking new ground)
  17. probably the right word and thus why it will be a hard sell.
  18. i have to admit i rolled my eyes when i read this but i clicked play anyway -- not sure it's awesome but it's way better than i expected. still - i can still see judges turning up their noses.
  19. awe man the hammer is about to fall (even if there is some truth to what you say)
