  1. Hello all; My High school program got new uniforms this year. I remember seeing a place to donate old ones. Do any of you know off hand a group that is processing old uniform donation? I don't usually read this forum, so if you could reply to: misterjmiller@gmail.com, that would be very helpful. Thanks
  2. Narration is an interesting idea. It's not like we have fluent French, Dutch, German, Cuban Spanish, and English speakers in the pit with little to do during the warm-up period... And there have been additions to the cow-bell rack. It should make a 'splash' And there is a new warm-up. And there are drill staging changes for the end of the show, because it wasn't loud enough. And this is all for our AZ trip, not for Finals. But my personal favorite bit of narration is: "Drum Corps International proudly presents, from Pasadena California, THE VELVET KNIGHTS!"
  3. I've got two... #1. 92 DCI East, in the small ensemble section of Brazil, we were working a 6-5 backwards move into pods. The baritone in front of me cut the angle, and stepped on my left toe with her right heel (I know, heels aren't supposed to touch the ground when going backwards at high velocity...) I went down, inside the form to save the line, and did a rolling backwards summersault to pop up in my spot right for the tutti entry at a halt. #2 93 DCI Semi Finals, moving into the first halt at the end of the opener, marching backwards along the front sideline, halting on the 30, on the sideline. Out of the corner of my eye, near the podium, I see Mr. DCI Camera man. Since I was facing the side 2 endzone, I could see the big screen. His image was on the big screen. I would be sliding into that image soon. I would be on the big screen. CAMERA TIME on the video! Boy, I'd look good, me on camera, immortalized on film. IT'S MY DAY!!! ...i just missed the horn move... in close up... forever.
  4. Gotta loves me some Funky Kold Medina. I will be there, maybe my wife and parents as well. (GASP... "I though he was gay!")
  5. It's official. We're starting the Kingsmen rifle line Groupies. We're even going to have shirts made. I was trying to explain to my corps members what that's like, "Imagine you mom being bad ### on rifle". I really miss that.
  6. During the Chromatic Z pull moment in the Velvet Knights show, in the middle of On The Waterfront, it is entirely appropriate to yell "VANGUARD". Please encourage all around you to participate. Courtesy of your friendly neighborhood program coordinator...
  7. My concerns are less about the field, and more about logistics. I was there for the Rose Parade show in 05. Getting a large pit on and off will be a trial, it's all going to have to leave via the rear of the field and directly onto a residential street, which will have to be closed. There's only one real way in and out, as well as one way in and out of the lot. Warm up will have to be on the campus somehwere, and the lot and the stadium are real close, so it's treck for warm-up space. I'm more concerned about pit than brass and drums. All staff attending the event will need to be savvy about maps and timing and such. It's also pretty low, but a low full stadium is better than a large empty one. Side 2 endzone has a parking structure as well. Joe SPAM Miller VK
  8. Actually, we're planing virtual props, complete with 3-D glasses. But props to you for pointing that out.
  9. Badgers? BADGERS? We dont need no stinking Badgers!
  10. Dude, I'm totally taller than #3... I like stripes just fine, they make me look less fat. Unless they go side to side...
  11. VK is planning on loosing at Finals by .01 with 10 points in penalties due to: live animals on the competition field (re-inactment of Noah's Arc, with penguins and a dophin. And fruit bats), breaking sound ordinace for the city of Pasadena (Hand cranked jet turbine for the "Wind" section), illegal use of a Fire truck and water cannon (For the "Firehouse 5" segment), use of illegal equipment (jet pack), breaking perimeter boundaries (jet pack), abducting a member of DCI staff (judge, jet pack), using said personel for range finding excercise, (target made of cream cheese and strawberry puree, DCI judge, jet pack), having too many members on the field, (the Vienna Boys choir, the cast of Cats, the Village People doing YMCA, reinactments of the Battles of Gettysburg and Midway, the Rite of Spring with sock puppets, Snoopy's IceCapades, the Anaheim Might Ducks hockey team w/skates, Presidents Carter, Clinton, Bush, and former Vice President Dan Quayle). Licensing is going to be a b***h

  13. ...Actually... #1 has paid his tour already as evidenced by the Cha cha he's doing. #2 is trying out for drum major but having a little trouble with his voice cracking during commands #3 has to re-take German 3 this summer for graduation requirements to get into Stanford, so we may loose him for First Tour. What you really need to be thinking about the the guy in the photo behind them. Talk about being a Poster boy.
  14. No, I know what DCP is, and many threads make a fabric, or even a rug, perhaps a carpet. Why the shark? I understand the crocodile, since Curt Gowdy couldn't stop talking about it for finals in 92. But a shark? They don't even have feet. How can they march? What's the relevence to DCI? Are there sharks in Pasadena? Do we just hit them on the nose, or try and chum the field? Would that be a penalty? What works best for chum? The Freelancers are gone, at least their uniforms were red, that could have helped. I'm so confused. Where are my meds...
  15. No... VK wants to know "What Would Happen If..." we used electronics.
  16. We've recieved a SPAM waiver... I have a cousin who judges, and she doesn't know either. Penalties is a DCI thing, not a judge thing, per-se. The question is disqualification, or penalty. When and how would this be assessed. Would we get DQ'd, but still have a raw score, or have a traveling penalty.
  17. Techni-color ninjas like Suncoast in 85. Keppin' it old skool, y'all.
  18. Hey; This topic kinda came up, and we were pondering it as a theoretical excercise, but... What if you came out with electronics on the field? What would the penalty be? Would it be a one time assessment, or would it be similar to a timing penalty, with 10th's off for every second in use. Anyone have a good solid answer to this burning question?
  19. Not just toasters, toasters with spinners. And light-up pictures of George Hopkins. See, ya gotta think outside the box...
  20. What happens if the monkeys become angry? Will fans be in any danger? Are you trying to avoid the issue? Is VK in compliance with California State Statutes governing its handling of monkeys? And....GO. By the way...neat report from Sunday rehearsal HERE. OK, since I'm the head monkey, maybe a few spoilers are in line. Contrary to popular belief, we DO NOT have monkey's and typewriters. That's just silly. They've got Mac's, and are currently editing Wikipedia. We were a little bummed that the electronics didn't pass. Imagine what we would do with that technology. At the Winter DCI meeting there was some discussion about flaming pink elephants, and we're trying to work that into our theme, as well as get the ASPCA to sign off on the pink elephant part. Something about contribution to green house gasses... I can say that the Matrix is involved, as are 80's bands with V in their names, and some Ska, because everyone loves ska and if they don't, they are wrong. We'll prove it. And perhaps the best sing along moment in all of DCI. We've got the moneky's working on a libretto so all the squares can follow along. Just as soon as they finish that Shakespear play... Specific enough for ya?
