MAGIC had a contra chick, passionantly dubbed contra mom or just mom and she could play so don't let anyone tell you chicks can't rock the tuba because they can!
-
just to get back to it, i believe the vanguard cadets use G contras and are in the process of getting an all Bb hornline but run into financial issues alot so....maybe someday...

no i don't believe your 'knocking it' in anyway i was just using the old expression but i do think it helped me on a personal basis and it did not stretch my lungs or diaphragm or anything like that just taught me to use my air consistently to the end of phrases and over all just be more inteligent with my air supply but i don't want to get on anyones bad side especially you vets that have been doing the activity much longer than i, i have only marched for two years and plan to march many more but i'm not doubting anyones idealology or anything of the sort just giving my small opinon. later days to everyone and keep up the debate, i believe i'm done but ill check back in another day...
-
well MAGIC used them this past season and i think they really helped us out because what we would do is run like a couple laps on the track and then as soon as we got back into arc we would start to control the breathe by using this device as a medium and i think it trained the lungs [and the player] to take as full of a breath as possible each and everytime. i still use mine to this day before i warm up for anything. but i really think they are beneficail to the brass lines overall performance. but honestly, don't knock it 'til you try it.

Things to bring on tour.

Something else I found to be good is to bring zip-loc bags in your backpack in-case it starts to rain, because if your going to carry an iPod and camera or anything like that than you don't want it ruined. Also scotch guard your bag it helps protect everything inside from water damage. I remember that I put like 10 coats on mine like 3 days before move in, and my stuff never got wet water just dripped off it like glass! but this is coming from a florida marcher so we had to be ready to rain, at all times. because it'll get ya! later days chris
