  1. One could argue loss of money forces better behavior so one doesn’t lose any. I fear the chickens are about to come home to roost for DCI. If they lose they will likely have to put up bond to cover award before any appeal can take place. And this will be happening during the 2024 season. How this would impact their working capital for the season is unclear. But they have travel & facilities to pay for before the gate receipts start to flow in.
  2. In the Olden Days we called this ‘peaking early’.
  3. Not sure this is the case. There were several off-ramps in the process where settlement could have happened when there were more assets available for liquidation than there are now.
  4. Some of the truth. But probably not the whole truth. There is always stuff that we don’t know that we don’t know ($0.02 to Donald Rumsfeld).
  5. DCI is also a defendant. And they do have some $ in the bank.
  6. Regardless of who prevails, I suspect there will be a lot of dirty laundry exposed.

  8. You may be correct. But, I would rather withhold judgment until we see scores from all the other top-12 contenders.
  9. 2023 Mandarins was one of the few times the hype resulted in an actual multi-spot jump in actual placement.
  10. This is the key to every off-season. Every Corps is so much better than they were at the same time last year, especially according to their press releases. What matters (from a scoring perspective) is how much ‘so much better’ they are relative to everyone else’s ‘so much better’.
  11. Well if talent is evenly spread, why haven’t BD been beaten since 2018?
  12. IDK. But you certainly don’t see the big placement fluctuations season to season as in the old days. In 1980-81 SCV went from 7th to 1st. Does anyone think that in 2024 Phantom can move to 1st (they were 7th in 2023)?
  13. One thing I really liked about olden days was that current year scores and placement didn’t seem to depend on previous years results (consider 27 from 73-75 — 7th, 20th, 4th). IDK if it was the judges calling it as they saw it, or the construction of the sheets. Or something else
  14. I’m not sure which, if any, of the shows that scored higher that I would place it above. Perhaps Colts - I thought the concept was meh, but the visual & music was well written & executed.
  15. We’ll see. Depends how much better or worse they score relative to how much better or worse other Corps score. But the basic point that for every Corps that makes finals in 24 that didn’t make finals in 23, someone from 23 is out. We know Cadets are out. SCV may or may not replace them.
  16. Next dumb question- once you get copyright clearances, do they last forever or do they expire at some point? Or is the clearance for a set number of performances? If SCV had clearance, I would hope they could roll them over to this season if the program remains the same.
  17. Am I recalling correctly that the 2022 show was what they had planned for 2020?
  18. Is the 24 design team same as 23 (pretty sure for percussion it is; not sure other captions)? I wonder how much of 23 was actually written before the plug was pulled?
  19. Doesn’t help that the NCAA isn’t known for its bureaucratic consistency
  20. DCI could really use something like an independent Inspector General. But to be effective they would need the power to force the member Corps to do things they may not want to do. And as our Mr Ream will point out, that won’t happen. It reminds me of when I was in the Pentagon, you get to see how lots of Generals operate; and they just can’t bring themselves to discipline each other. It’s ok if a General is a serial adulterer, but if a captain or sergeant did it they would be court-martialed.
  21. Yup. And I am glad he is as he understands where to look, as well as what to look at.
